FrogDemon
Has anyone here succeeded in getting FO3 or FNV to run with PlayonLinux under Wine? I have been trying for 3 days now and am about to just throw in the towel.

FrogDemon
I'm running Linux Mint 10, which is based on Ubuntu 10.10. I have tried all the tuts in the Ubuntu forums, even posted at the Mint forums. Seems like a lot of ppl have it running nicely, but most do not want to give any good info. They just keep sending me to the same old tutorials. One guy even stated these did not work for him either, so he found a different way, but won't help with it. Thanx for the help though. I hope you can get it to work
TheTerminator2004
Give us a bit more detail on exactly what problem you're having, and we may be able to offer some advice. I can't give you any specifics until I know exactly what error you're getting, but if you haven't checked the AppDB, that's the first place to go - any wine-specific bug reports etc are filed there, and most known information on getting the game running should be collected there too. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14322
FrogDemon
I just can't get it to run properly. I have CoD4 installed with no issues at all. Runs fine. FO3 installed, but when I try and run it, it actually takes 15 minutes just to get to the game menu. I couldn't even start a new game. After waiting almost 30 minutes, I gave up. Same thing with FNV. Installed fine, without Steam. So there is no error.
FrogDemon
I think I am officially giving up on this. I guess CoD4 will have to do.
TheTerminator2004
What Linux distro are you using? What Wine version? What output does it give when you run it from a terminal (copy/paste the last 50 lines here if you're not sure what's important)? Are you using the latest patch for FO3? What graphics card do you have, and what driver version? I need to know all of these to be able to help :)
FrogDemon
I'm using Linux Minti 10, a Ubunut 10.10 distro. Wine 1.2.1, PlayonLinux 3.7.6-1. Yes, using the latest patch for FO3. Nvidia 8400GS running driver version 185. Which is the latest linux driver that I was able to install. Not sure what you want me to c&p from the terminal. Do you want me to run Wine from terminal? TheTerminator2004
yep, run wine from the terminal. cd to the directory where Fallout is installed (it'll be somewhere under ~/.wine), and run "wine Fallout3.exe" (or whatever the name of the exe file is). Also, I'm assuming you've also tried messing around with the Windows version wine is emulating, and whether the linux window manager controls the windows, etc? If not, run winecfg at a terminal. There are various settings in there which can effect whether games will run or not. Your wine version, graphics drivers, etc all seem to be good, so they aren't causing the problem - though you could try using the development branch of wine, 1.3.1, and see if that works if nothing else fixes it.
