Changing mesh color

Can anyone tell me how to change the color of a piece of armor? I downloaded a mod, but want to change the color of it to see how it looks. I wont publish or do anything with it without athor's permission... i just want to change it from black to red. I have no clue how to do this.

You'll have to change the item's texture, not the mesh.

Modded textures can be found in the "Textures" folder inside the"Data" folder. The texture for the item should be a .dds file that you can edit with Paint.Net for example. Then just replace the original .dds file with yours.
