Oblivion has stopped working.

Hi, I have an issue on oblivion crashing saying that "OBLIVION HAS STOPPED WORKING" when entering towns, or getting out of houses to town. On my OBMM it said that I have a hash collision 13; perhaps it has something to do with this? or is it my computer? I run a windows 7 64bit. ( not in programs file since I understand that it causes more problems if any games run in that folder. ) I also run everything as administrator. Thanks in advance

You're using 2 weather mods. You should only use one weather overhaul. I'm sure this is causing conflicts somewhere. It may not be the sole reason for your crashes but it's definitely a good place to start. It's very possible this is the cause for you crashes when you transition through load doors. One of the most common bugs with Natural Environments is the "fast switching weather bug on transitions". So if one weather mod is rapidly trying to change the weather and the other mod is choosing another weather, yeah I'd call that a major conflict.

I strongly suggest you use Enhanced Weather over Natural Weather. Yes there is a potential fix for some of the bugs with the mod but it's hit or miss. Works for some, others still have buggy weather. It's best to just avoid outdated and buggy mods. refer to Tomlong's Site for more popular outdated mods. Also that site is a great overall wealth of information.

 

Start there and report back. Until you fix this obvious conflict we cannot move forward.

Ok, I am finally updated all my mods, refreshed, Boss em, rebuilt Batch Patch tried oblivion out. It crashed going into a city again. Just to be sure I tried more than 1 city and it crashed. instead of the "oblivion has stopped working" it is a straight up CTD.it turns out its not the weather mod, or bedroll.

What has changed since then?

 

actually I have been working on this for the past 2 months have been very patient with it. reinstalled again 3 days ago with Fcom with my old Mod list before I delete my old install of Oblivion. Strangely the Old install had the same problem just not as severe. I also noticed that loading around..... 4, 5 or more times so the computer gets used to the game and its location really helps. Example.. Fast travelling from leyawin to Bravil docks and upon entering bravil it crashes... However if I fast travel from leyawin to Bravil docks and save.. load again .. and again for about 4 times until I see people moving instead of standing still staring. I could enter Bravil, perhaps its not the mods but the Ram?? This isn;t a full test though I am goign to try this out to other cities. If they all work out i'll report back. Thanks for all your help agian.

 

I took out Natural Weather and have ONLY Enhanced weather. added enhanced vegetation over natural weather's vegetation. disabled bedrolls, added updated harvest flora. read the rest of tonlongs page. That's it all the updates there is nothing more I can update.

Ok, what happend was the update of the mods and the site you provided has helped, it just decrease the chance of of ctd from %99 to %50. I have been getting lucky, it's got nothing to do with loading more.... does this frequent random crashes have anything to do with having 13 hash collisions and selecting virtually everything except leveled list in the bash patch rebuild?

Read the information HERE for detailed information on Hash Collisions. **Just do a Ctrl F search on that page for "hash collision" and it will explain what you need to know and describe Hash Tables briefly. There are two entries, one about half way down the page, the other near the bottom. Read both.** Basically it's just two files with the same names and it confuses Oblivion's Archive Invalidation. So a simple example would be missing textures or purple textures when there is an error. It's not going to cause major problems in most cases, if at all, but you should have that option checked in OBMM according to the documentation. It sounds to me like it's just two pieces of data sharing the same name as a file in the BSAs. That's why we have BSA Redirection though, to solve this, telling Oblivion how it should handle files that have the same name. The information I linked you to can explain it better than I can.

 

I don't use OBMM at all so I'm not sure how that helps but the description says it's critical to check it. When I did use OBMM early on I ignored everything it said, because it's wrong 99% of the time. It will tell you there is a problem or conflict when it's not really an issue. There is a difference between a conflict and an actual problem, but that's another discussion. I use Wrye Bash and TES4Edit for conflict detection and resolution.

 

As far as checking everything in Wrye Bash. No that doesn't create problems, that fixes and prevents problems. That's the whole point of the patch, to merge and bring records forward that would be overwritten otherwise.

 

If it's completely random crashes that could be a number of things. A dirty mod, a conflict, system overload, etc... I would reduce the amount of mods to a bare minimum and see if you still have problems. Establish a stable game and build off that. (1)Start with only Oblivion (patched, including Unofficial Patches) and slowly add mods one by one to maintain stability. Test for at least a few hours after adding a few mods. This way you will know what causes the problem when it happens. OR (2)You can start deactivating mods in "chunks" to see when the crashes cease to happen. Then you enable mods one by one until the crash reoccurs. Then you have found the mod creating problems, or the mod that's conflicting with another. Process of elimination. It's a tedious process but it's the only way. I suggest the first method though. Start with a stable game and slowly add to it.

 

It's really tough to pinpoint random or intermittent problems. Since you cannot exactly replicate the issue. If the problems happen in cities more than anywhere else, as you noted, it could be overload of AI. Since you'll have many more AI packages running from all the various NPCs around.
