Mods I Add Dont Show Up In Data Files

When I place the mods at C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\ they don't show up when I go to the Data Files selection, only the caravan pack and main file do. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. No mods I've placed there have show up in the menu. I've tired leaving the mod files in their folders and taking them out. I'm running Windows 7 64bit. Any help?

I just want to add that I don't understand even the fundamentals of how mod for this game, I worried if there is any kind of burden of messing around with things to make this work I will have to give up on it because I'd rather not break the game because I don't know what I'm doing.

Based on the path you show, you didn't go quite deep enough where you put them.

You show: C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\

Should be: C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\data

 

Also a common neophyte mistake is not extracting the mod by using an unzipping program such as 7-zip.

What bben46 said + you might also want to consider downloading the New Vegas Mod Manager as this program will do the majority of the work for you with only a few simple steps.
