No sound for Interesting NPCs

Just started modding using Nexus rather than the workshop. I wanted to get Interesting NPCs so I downloaded it using NMM, my Skyrim works fine but the charcters added from this mod have no voice acting (even though this mod is completely voice acted). I tried manually installing it as well by adding it to the folder 'Data' withing 'Skyrim' within 'Common' within 'SteamApps'. I then used the NMM to add mod from file and added the ZIP file 'UPDATE v309 - Requires v308 installed-8429-3-09'. Then I activated the mod via NMM. I think I'm missing something with manual downloading or can anyone offer some advice or a fix?

Adding it manually and then installing it with NMM is doing both and essentially installing it twice. NMM just does that for you. Might be worth deleting it from the data folder and un-installing it with NMM and the install it again just using NMM. I don't think that's why you have no voices but just so you know for next time. Also steams workshop is a bit iffy, I don't know how things will work while your letting it mess with your mods. Try running LOOT though, that might help.

Also, rooting through the mod page I found this;

Q. The NPCs have no voices. : (

A. Very likely because you didn’t install the mod correctly. Do a manual installation (see the guide below) and make sure everything’s in place, including the SEQ.

Here is the guide mentioned, spoiler tagged because it's long;

Step by step manual installation

Note: This is mostly to help people who have audio issues (npcs don't talk) and who aren't familiar with mod structures or manual installations. If all you need to know is how to manually install: get 7Zip, extract the 3DNPC file and copy the entire Data folder over the Data folder in your Skyrim installation folder (where the launcher is). Install whatever patch you need aaand done.

I don't have a clue why some users are completely unable to run this mod. There's nothing different about INPC from other mods. That said, manual installs can't really go wrong. And if you're new to Skyrim modding, it's a good idea to familiarise yourself with where mods go, and the various parts of what comprises a mod. Without further ado, read and follow -

1. Locate the INPC file you downloaded to your computer.

2. Extract it. If you don't have a file compression software, 7Zip is an excellent and totally free app.

3. If the process of extraction gives you an error like 'unexpected end of archive' then your download is very likely corrupt/incomplete and you will have to download it all over again.

4. If the extraction is successful, you will see a folder called ' Data'. Go into the Data folder. These are the files and folders you should see:

-Meshes
-SEQ
-Sound
-Textures
-3DNPC.esp
-3DNPC.bsa

5. If they are all present, go back out of the Data folder you extracted and copy it. Yes, all of it.

6. Go to the folder where your Skyrim Launcher.exe is. Paste INPC's Data folder you just copied into here. Click 'yes to all' if it asks if you want to merge or overwrite.

7. Go into your game's Data folder. Check the following -

- is there a '3DNPC.esp' folder under Meshes/Actors/Character/FaceGenData/FaceGeom

- is there a '3DNPC.esp' folder under textures/Actors/Character/FaceGenData/FaceTint

- is there a '3DNPC.seq' file under SEQ folder

- are there '3DNPC.esp' and 'Skyrim.esm' folders under Sound/Voices

- are '3DNPC.esp' and '3DNPC.BSA' present where your Skyrim files (eg, Skyrim-Voices, Skyrim-Meshes, Update.esm etc) are located.

8. If they are all there, start the Launcher, choose Data Files, tick 3DNPC.esp, then start up the game.

9. This is only a quick test run. So at the main menu, click the ~ key to bring up the console, type in 'coc riverwood'.

10. Once you are in Riverwood, go and find either Hjoromir or Gorr and try talking to them. If all is as it should be, they should have voices. If they don't, quicksave and quickload then try talking to them again.

Re-generating INI files

If all of the above fails, try re-generating your Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini. Both are found in your My Documents/My Games/Skyrim folder. Once you have located them, make a backup of both and then delete the originals.

Start your Launcher. It should give you a message about detecting your hardware specifications. This will regenerate the two ini files you just deleted.

Now run the game and check if the INPCs are there/have voices.

Two ini lines that may also help:

I don't have much idea about this as I've never had to use them outside of Fallout but they are not harmful tweaks. If everything else fails, go to My Documents/My Games/Skyrim folder. Double click on SkyrimPrefs.ini. Under the section labelled 'Launcher' find these two lines

bAllowFileSelection = 1
bLoadLooseFiles = 1

If they are set at 0, change it to 1. If 'bLoadLooseFiles = 1' is not there, add the line. Remember this goes under the 'Launcher' section.

If none of the above helps but something else does, please leave a comment on what steps you took to get the mod working for you.

Hope that helps :smile:

EDIT: This might be relevant also;

I was also having the "randomly cannot talk to NPCs" bug and can confirm it was Animations. Not sure it's a mod conflict problem so much as a bug with the Animations mod itself. I only thought it was an INPCs glitch at first because in the beginning only INPCs were affected. Perhaps that's just because I was interacting more frequently with INPCs than any other characters -- I'm not sure. Vanilla NPCs came down with the same problem eventually.

But since a fix doesn't seem to be listed here: I found the instructions in this post solved the problem for me, without the need to revert to an earlier save before the NPC/object became corrupted (that can get troublesome if an NPC glitched 50 game hours ago without your knowing it). Do not uninstall Animations without following those instructions, as it will only leave the NPC/object glitched that way permanently.

In my experience, that fix will always work, so you could if you want continue to use Animations with INPCs, correcting the problem with that method each time it arises. I preferred to just fix all my bugged actors and objects and uninstall Animations. Haven't had the problem since.
