Saving the Brotherhood

Well, yeah, I killed House as well, was planning to from the moment I found Yes Man, I don't like being lied to and not being given all the information needed to do a job. Full Disclosure leads to better performance, because you'd be better prepared for what may happen. By not telling the Courier how important the Chip was, we think it's just another job, when it was a job that would have gone better if it was more informative. I do however agree somewhat with House, if left to their own devices, the people of the wasteland would continue a spiral of destruction that would eventually wipe them out. And the recycling of old ideas is not a good idea to begin with, because if the current state of affairs is any indication, those old ideas, didn't exactly work.

In reality, tho, how is House doing anything new? He's made himself a dictatorial despot, and, as history has show, it eventually leads to social unrest and bloodshed.

That said, I agree it annoys me that there's no choice to get the Brotherhood to side with House. In a sense, it makes sense because House wants total control of the Nevada region and sees the BoS as a threat to his control, hence his orders to wipe them out, but that shouldn't prevent the player from telling the Brotherhood to vacate to another region, particularly if the player has already gotten in good with them.

I'd be happy with something as simple as "<Lie> Yes, I blew them up.", so I can continue the game. I'm still on my first playthrough and I've stalled because I want to do Mr. House's storyline, but I can't bring myself to kill the BoS. Alternately, how/can I use the console to cheat past the quest? Everything I've tried gives me credit for completing it, but doesn't register with House, so I can't get the next quest.

He'd be able to test the lie by sending his robots to Hidden Valley to see if they still get wiped out by BoS patrols, though. Any ability to save the BoS has to include them either moving elsewhere, or being persuaded to avoid contact with House's henchmen.

Depends on how realistic you want it, heh. That could be fixed by adding a Speach check to Elder McNamara/Hardin (depending on how you play out that questline) to convince them to avoid the Securitrons, as you suggest. Make the speach check for Hardin more difficult to reflect his more aggressive nature.

P.S. Not really related: Does Veronica attack you if you blow up the bunker? She's my companion and that's another reason I don't want to do it.

Actually depends on your standing with the BoS. If your standing is good, ie, you've pretty much joined them, she won't turn on you, though the ending of the game will reflect your actions.

I would like a way to save them, I went the Indy route just because I didn't want to kill any of the factions I had gotten on good terms with, especially the Brotherhood, because they made me a member. Why would I go and kill my own faction? That's kinda counter-productive...

Thats always a plus...I'd also like it if the Remnants didn't turn on you if you get into a fight with Oliver...but thats a whole nother story...

I like this idea, I will look into it. I'll see how the quest dialogue is handled. Maybe throw an BoS NPC that would be an alternate side toggle, so they'd stay alive. When you get to House, you'd have a new option of <lie> to house yadda yadda yadda.

This would be most appreciated, thank you.

Obsidian made their point when they developed this game:

"War... War never changes..."

Maybe that's what it refers to, the fact that you as a courier can't change EVERYTHING in the game, it just happen, or will happen, eventually, in some way or form.
