XTR3M368
I do the polygamy thing like Rusty sometimes...probably because I would never do that in real life....and because Dracomies made the Morrigan and Leliana morphs so tasty lol. (that and only a madman wants to try and keep a stable of women....they ALWAYS find out and you lose HALF! lol) The only way I can play a "darkside" character all the way is if I use a female....I just can't do it as a male PC...but doing it as a female I can because it is enough removed from reality that I can make my toon be a complete ruthless B**ch. I even had an "evil" male toon that I couldn't finish after helping the Werewolves take out the elves....I so want an option for my toon to say to Morrigan "Shut up and just stand there looking hot" lol....and I HATE Zevran...the little backstabber. I can't wait until that mod is finished that turns him into a female being voiced. I am SO using that one. The nonchalant way he brushes off just trying to kill me makes me want to wring his scrawny little neck..so I do. I could take it if Zevran was a hot chick elf..... and don't get me started on Ohgren.... :yucky: yea..I guess I can't help going light side. Going around killing darkspawn and other baddies is enough of a removal from reality that I don't feel like I need to be a complete jerk in the game just for something different. FrostOwl
For me playing an RPG close to watching interactive movie. I try to make choices that will be pleasant to look at as I do not like gore/drama/mindless killing/love triangles- my RPG choices are always in the "boring" ultra nice and absolutely monogamous. More over than that, I never change decision pattern regardless of the fact how many times I done full playthrough.
Ysmene
I am glad to learn I am not the only person who has a weird thing against being evil in games. I'm usually a very nice person, so it's hard for me to play an outright sociopath. I like games that let me roleplay a little, or at least give me a variety of choices on what to do or how to treat NPCs. I did play an angry, bitchy character on one of my multiple playthroughs of the old Vampire: the Masquerade game, but I realized that I lost out on a lot of missions or other benefits because I was so mean to everyone. Since then, I try to be at least decent because I *hate* feeling like I've missed out on content. I do like getting all the extras and goodies possible, so I will probably eventually defile the ashes to get the Reaver specialization... but I think for that game, I'll be playing a Dwarf warrior. The Dwarves don't worship the Maker or revere Andraste the way the humans or elves do, so it would make sense from an RP perspective. That'll probably also be the PC who sides with the werewolves against the elves, if only because I want to see how werewolves do in the final battle. My usual method is to play through once and make the choices that seem 'right' (which is how my first City Elf ended up in a romance with Alistair... it just made sense to go for him over the elf who *tried to kill me*, and Leliana just took too damn long to get to the point). Then I go through and make all different choices, just to see what happens, though I usually try to come up with a cohesive, character-driven reason as to why my PC would want A instead of Z. Aoeworth
For me when I role play, I totally detach myself from the character. I really make up a whole new persona for the character before embarking on the story. How the plot works itself out determines the logical choice (in terms of dialogue options) this character would make. So, depending on my mood, I'll play a certain character. If I'm annoyed by work, I take my a**hole character who without any remorse or regret, killed the wounded solider in Ostraga, killed Arl Eamon's son, defiled the ashes (he has no time at all for religion or beliefs in 'something') and threw the knife into Bro. Givolli (sp?) head. [i'm annoyed that when the landsmeet was called and Howe and Logain entered Eamons estate an 'attack' option was not allowed and this character would have gone absolutely berserk] If I'm in a happy mood, I've got mr. goodie two shoes who is very compassionate, won't kill Jowan nor Logain but leaves it to the powers that be, makes peace with the werewolves etc. Having said that, every character I have hates Sten...maybe that is my personality 'crossing over' haha. Stuck up, pompous Qunari. -.-
Chiramu
I didn't really understand this thread until I read everyone's comments; but now I understand it I can give another answer to the question. I play the game sort of how I am like in real life; but I also act on how I imagine my PC would act. I sort of design a character to have their own personality, and I choose different options depending on who I am playing. Like my Dalish, I didn't want Zathrien to die, cause she is a Dalish too and understands their plight. So she ended up doing the "evil" course by killing the werewolves. Most of the options are very black and white, which I think is bad. I personally end up playing my characters in a bit of a gray area, because that is how real life is. Although, when I first started playing, I just did EVERYTHING good. One thing I really dislike in DA though is Morrigan's personal quest, it makes it sound like you're some little lackey doing her dirty work :<. And for that reason, I always let Flemeth go, because I don't like playing a tool.
dragon6510
I allways role play, I act in the game as I would in real life, probably because I want to se how would world develop if I was there instead of Gray Warden, how would my actions affect the situation we are in and the lives of the people. About using male or female characters - well I usualy have some tipe of rules: Human Warrior must be male, Mage must be female - human or elf, Rouge is female or male - must be elf... -those were few examples - but they dont have to be fallowed, it is good to play with difrent genderes, you can see some things from other perspectives...
Karasuman
Sometimes I think I'm going to play in a different way, but eventually, my moral rules always end up taking over.In Dragon Age there's just certain things I'll never see in the game, i.e. -*spoiler*- Alistair being executed. Just won't happen. I find it interesting though how Bioware has a way of making the alternative to that scenario not feel as good as you thought it would. I felt kind of crappy after executing Loghain. In RPGs as in real life I attempt to stay away from things that make me feel like crap, but in Bioware's games there's sometimes no choice. They'll make sure you feel bad no matter what decision you make. And that's a kudos to them, because that's often how your decisions work regarding other people in real life too. Doing the "right" thing doesn't always make you feel good about yourself.
dragon awakened
In most games I play my characters male or female end up with parts of my personality. I spent 17 years as a bodyguard so I tend to very often play the character as a respectful and very humble protector of the downtrodden. If you attack me err.. the character you will pay for it. Show me respect and you get it back. I have found it easier to come up with a name and concept for female characters. Because I help teach women to fight I have no problem seeing them as fighters. I do not even have this game yet but I'm already figuring my first run through this game will be using the Human Noble as a female fighter (Ravenna Cousland.) The romance aspect of this game means very little to me as I'm thinking practically, I'm here trying to survive in a land that has just gone up S--- Creek without a paddle in a stone boat while the fat lady is singing or at least tuning up (pretty dire eh?) gettin' sum just is not a big priority (at lest for me)right now. I'm heading back to my cave. :)

I'm heading back to my cave. :) Ummm  you might get a few surprises along the way. When I first played I didn't even know there was such a thing as romance in RPGs, it all just unfolded around my unbelieving surprised and shocked ears and eyes, but I hadn't done any research, watched video's or even knew these forums existed so hadn't read anything either. I thought it was like every other D&D game I have ever played...me, companions save the world, retire until needed again... hopefully. It's just my personal opinion, but I don't think men can truly play as women or vice versa, because we don't think the same, men aren't ruled by hormones for a start all you can do is imagine how you think a man/woman would say/do in a given situation, but you can never truly know if you are right or not. I've had the pleasure of seeing what happened when my other half tried to play as a woman, that was the best laugh I've had in years, it's a good job he can take a joke and didn't get upset at me nearly falling down laughing at some things, bless him. Lifewing
it never seems to fail, that I end up making choices in game as i would in life. I tell myself this time I will be evil and kill the elves , But I just never seem to do it. I intend to be cruel in sentences etc but in the end [ for example Fable, i end up with a halo!!!!] this having been said the ironic thing is , that in real life I can be quite a scrapper at times, but usually only in protection of my loved ones, or someone whom i percieve as unable to defend themselves/ So while I hate ending up a goodie-two-shoes, I usually am :( I do the same thing. I always find it funny that I can never bring myself to do otherwise unless it's just for an ahievement- and even then I might not. Eh, oh well. :turned:
