Gear Jammer; aka Not-Another-Fast-Travel/House Mod

Okay, basically I've decided to teach myself the G.E.C.K. by creating a House Mod. A house Mod is relatively simple and straightforward to do, right? And it can always be expanded later on to incorporate bigger and better features?

Well, that was the plan, until I saw the Motorcycle Fast-Travel mod that was included with the Follower's Edition overhaul mod for Fallout 3. That inspired me to do something a little bit different...

So basically what was once a simple house-mod has evolved into the Goliath Mobile Carrier; an over-glorified Trailer Home that, if I can figure out scripting before the Sun goes nova, can be used as an alternate Fast-Travel and home-away-from-home where-ever you go. It's also an exercise in efficient use of space because, lets face it, there's not a lot of room in the back of a big-rig, especially when you fill it up with things like shelving units n' stuff ;P

Planned Features and Benefits:

  • Fast-Travelling Mobile House -- "Home is where you park your truck!"
  • Full House Amenities -- Workbench, Reloading Bench, Weapon and Ammo Storage, and more!
  • Trash Burner -- Turn unwanted Wasteland Junk into useful Scrap Metal
  • Vending Machines -- Nuka-Cola and now, Sunset Sarsaparilla too! (Ice-Cold Sunset Sarsaparilla included!)
  • Infirmary and Chem-Lab! -- Take a licking and keep on kicking
  • Sorters! -- Sort your liquor, your ammo, your guns... Everything

So far, the Interior is more-or-less set out:

  • Link ~Outside, looking In
  • Link ~Ammo Storage
  • Link ~Weapon Storage
  • Link ~Consumables Area (From Foreground to Back: Food Storage, Fast-Access Pantry Shelves, and Liquor Cabinet)
  • Link ~Work Area and Junk Storage (I actually had an idea just now, and plan to change this area up a bit.)
  • Link ~Bunk and Clothing Storage (Storage to be moved/changed along with Workbench Junk Storage)
  • Link ~Desk with Central Control Terminal, Chem-Lab, and Infirmary

Regarding Junk Storage and Clothing Storage:

I'm planning to take out those two lockers I'm using for junk storage at the moment and replace them with some kind of wall cabinet or suchlike, above their corresponding workbench. This will free up some floorspace, and I'll replace the footlocker I'm using for clothing storage, and put in three/four new freestanding lockers, which will serve as Heavy Armor, Medium Armor, and Light Armor storage. If I can fit a forth one in, it will be for Clothing and Hats/Accessories, hopefully.

Why aren't I doing that right now? Cuz it's 2:30 in the morning already, and I've been at this all day already.

Update Time, Children!

Okay, so I discovered that a) none of the existing truck trailers in the GECK were gonna do any good, and b) having the trailer entrance so narrow presented a host of unpleasant issues with stumbling and fumbling past your companions, if you have any. So I scrapped the Mk I design I had, and created a new trailer from scratch, with a side door instead of an end one.

~ Trailer Model 2.0

It's made of old Anchorage Simulation Crates and a factory roller-door. X3 Hopefully when this mod is finished, I can find somebody who would like to do a proper trailer model for me. Until then, let's keep on keeping on.

A new roller door was put in, so I moved the doorway on the Interior, and put the roller-door in place and, quite frankly, I'm rather astounded at how easy it all went.

~Door

As part of the new design, I had to juggle some things around. One of which was the Junk Storage for the Workbench and Reloading Bench. They're now underneath the Workbench, and use very different-looking containers so that there is no confusion as to which box contains what junk for which bench ;3

~Junk Storage

The workbenches, weapon lockers, and ammo storage bays have been moved to the far end of the trailer, where the door used to be.

~Storage

Armor and clothing storage got an overhaul, as the new layout left me with quite a bit of room to spare. So now there are three lockers for light, medium, and heavy armor, plus a wall-mounted container for hats and accessories, and a footlocker for non-armor clothing.

~Clothes Storage

Now with extra room to move around, I got to put something back in that I was afraid that I'd have to ditch, for lack of wall-space: my Chem-sorter! The picture here is a place-holder, showing where the containers will be and how they will be laid out until I get around to making a skin for each container label.

~Chems

Oh yeah, one more thing: for those items that're important to you, but can't seem to find a place for anywhere else? I've put a floor-safe in under the desk, so you have a place for important uncategorized items like your Stealth-Boys and Skill Magazines :3

~Floor Safe

The exterior hasn't been worked on much, yet. But the plan is to have the Trash-Burner attached to the exterior of the trailer, as well as an exterior cargo-box for a Campfire crafting junk. A campfire will be added as part of the Truck's exterior, as soon as the purposed fast-travel script is working. I've gotten a few suggestions for purchase-able add-ons for the truck, both inside and out, and I've taken a liking to some of them. We'll see what the next couple of days' effort brings.

Thoughts of a flying winnebago just came to my head, lol. Ill try to be watching out for this.

I loved that motorcycle one. I used that with underground hideout and it was great for my "vision" on how i saw that character in FO3.

"...Winnebago...? ...LONE STAR!"

heh. No worries, I'm moving onto the scripting of the sorters now. Shouldn't be too hard; just really, REALLY tedious x.x;; Good thing I've got a five-day weekend coming up.

I am trying to make that model for you, it is going... somewhere but I'm having a bit trouble finding tutorials on exports and stuff like that... at least I can make the model first and then see what happens from there...

Good News Everyone! /farnsworth

The Absinthe is back up on the shelf, and the Liquor Cabinet Script runs like a Swiss Clock :3

~Booze

This gave me cause to experiment with a side-mod that may be added as art of the Gear Jammer mod, or as a completely different mod altogether. You will note that, next to the liquor cabinet and underneath the pantry shelves, is a barrel and tubing monstrosity of dubious construction. That is your Portable Still. The plan is to create a library of crafting recipes, similar to the Workbench or Reloading Bench, where players can gather materials to create bootleg alcohol (or soda!) for either personal consumption, or to sell throughout the wasteland at a profit.

Also a minor note: I discovered that Nuka-Chemist used Ice-Cold Nuka Cola as one of its recipes. This did not sit well with me at all; Ice-Cold Nuka Cola is now made the Fallout 3 way: dumping warm Nuka-Colas into the Vending Machine. The recipe has subsequently been replaced with the rare and experimental Nuka-Cola Quantum. Quantum was slated to be added to New Vegas anyhow; it even has its own modified attributes, different from Fallout 3's, in the GECK. The radioactive caffeinated elixir practically slays Sleep Deprivation, if you play on Hardcore Mode ;3

Nuka Chemist recipes (If I follow through on the Brewery mod idea) will be made at the Still, rather than at the Workbench.

Are you planing on having all the storage area's there when you start the mod, or are they going to be "upgrades" you can buy.

I kindof like the upgrade way, so everything isnt right there for the PC. Plus its a decent money sink ;)

And gas. Needed to move the place around? Or a "mister fusion" for junk items, lol.

I want to make sure that the scripts and everything work first. Then I may move onto making the workbenches, storage, etc purchasable upgrades. Right now this weapon-sorting script is kicking my ass, and I can't figure out WHY it won't work. I've used Cipscis' Script Validater and it doesn't seem to have any errors...

Which means I'm missing something really obvious :<
