Texturing Weapons

I'm making a new sniper rifle. I got the model done and managed to get it in game and functioning. I also figured out how to export UV map from Blender 2.55. I can edit the UV map from gimp and export as a dds.

 

My problem is that With such a large weapon I can only Identify maybe 15% of the UV map and where it goes on the weapon.

What is the simplest way to texture a large weapon like this?
