StrawberryChan
Character investment is the most important part of a game to me - the moment I hit a level cap, I lose all interest in the game. Even with a reduced experience rate, I'm looming dangerously close right now, and it got me thinking... Simply raising the level cap, as far as I know, has all sorts of problems associated with it. I recall reading that enemies become nigh-invincible at a point, and that the game can lock up when one has points to spend, but nowhere to allocate them. Would it be possible to allow further player growth with such:*Raise the level cap to level 31, which requires three times the experience to get to as it did to advance from 29 to 30.*After the player exits the 'level up dialouge' for level 31, they are reset to level 30, so they can advance again (Leveling up potentially infinitely while the enemies do not scale with the player)*Allow the player to continue without allocating all their points. (I've seen a mod on the nexus that does this)*At level 31, the player unlocks perks such as "Improved Strength (+1 STR)" and so forth that have enough available ranks that the player can get all S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats to 10, provided they level up to 31 enough times. This would allow players to, after leveling up many many times, get every perk in the game and every skill point and such, without having enemies become unkillable juggernauts, and would extend playtime by many hours for every perk the player downloaded from the nexus. (Although eventually enemies would pose no threat, It's nothing that can't be fixed with OPTIONS > GAMEPLAY > DIFFICULTY) Please correct me if this is a stupid idea, the game doesn't work like this, it's been done before, or I'm overlooking something. Just thought I'd type this out and see if anyone is willing.

dra6o0n
So basically... Upon reaching Level 30, you can talk to a "mysterious" NPC who will manipulate your life and allow you to "revise" your character, whilst keeping everything. At this point, you go "prestige" but in a interesting way: For starters, your level turns to Lv1, but your total level is shown in brackets (31).Each level up is harder to attain, and instead of stats and perks, you gain a "proficiency" system, which allows you to master a limited number of weapons and armors of your choice. The limits is determined by how high you can get your "Prestige" level, and it gives you a proficient point every level up.You then are able to add this point into a weapon or armor, and watch as it's stats gets buffed or even unlock secret abilities/perks! dra6o0n
The idea of a infinite level up that's 3x longer to get to doesn't really expand gameplay that much...You'd need to add a separate leveling system that kicks in... Maybe... Take hardcore mode, but drastically change it into a new mode that requires you to reach level 30 to activate? This new mode allows you to level up to 60 maybe... The problem is (as the op stated) is that if you allow your character to get to high a level than the npcs become nigh on impossible to beat. StrawberryChan
Mostly I suggested this idea in the format it is written in is out of simplicity. There are almost certainty better systems to implement, like completely re-tooling the difficulty of npcs based on level etc etc, but I was aiming for something feasible and doable in an afternoon. (Or what I assume would be doable, being absolutely terrible at GECKery myself.)
Khet
I actually like this idea... I got a more important project going on at the moment, but if I get the chance (or get fed up with my project and want a change of pace) I'll look into it. But then, by the time I do, someone else will have already done it, heh.
mast3rshake2049
(scruffy*) ....second this would be the perfect mod (strawberries ver) for people who would simply like to max out their character, and at the same time keeping difficulty levels at what obsidian had intended. this to me sounds like a great alternative to other level cap mods that simply increase the level cap. i also second the notion that rpg style games of any type lose a tremendous amount of appeal once you hit any sort of barrier in being able to develop your character. the last time i had to deal with a level cap of 30 i was around 8 or so...*sheds tear in memory of super mario RPG, Legend of the seven stars.*
dra6o0n
How about adjusting it so as you level up, the level of enemies in a region will change, as a alternative to the system that "freezes" the region's level when you get there for the first time. This allows new enemies to spawn into the region... Might be handy, like if you rush to new vegas at a low level, at some point you won't find much challenge in the world... A "Smart" level-cap in my opinion, is a controlled yet variable level cap. Controlled, because there is a end to the levels...Variable, because there's many different options that is given from leveling up. Maybe... Change it so you can "save" your skillpoints and perk points (PP) from the start to finish on lv1 to 30?This means at the level up menu, you can "cancel" the level up, and keep your points. You then are able to use a item in the aid menu to activate the level up menu, but only if your skillpoints/PP are over 0. A NPC or feature that allows you to transfer skill points from one skill to another?
