Tactical Crossbow

So i was in a lecture this morning, and ended up looking up some mod ideas on my iPhone. I found a pretty cool Crossbow mod for Fallout 3, which was part of the STALKER mod. I'd really like to see this idea brought into New Vegas, but i think it could be taken a little bit further, what with all the new additions to the game;

- A new crossbow could be added to the game, the aforementioned model could be used however the model and textures could be better, and better scaled so it fits into the characters hands a little bit nicer.

- Weapon mods could be included, such as a red dot sight or tactical scope, which would upgrade from the basic ironsights. There could also be mods that upgrade rate of fire, or reloading speed.

- There are no darts in New Vegas, however we wouldn't need to stop there. Poison, concussion or paralysis darts/bolts have already been used in Fallout 3, but has anybody thought of an explosive bolt? I am not thinking of a huge explosion, something similar to that of a slave collar.

- The mod i mentioned made note that bolts would not stay visible in a player when they were hit, and it would be much better if you could see them.

If anybody is thinking of this, i would love to know because i think this would make such an improvement to the game.

For the different bolt types, they could be craftable items either at the ammo reloader or the workbench. Maybe build the normal crossbow bolts at first and then you can upgrade them into various poisoned or explosive bolts.

Bolt ideas:bo

Poisioned Bols-

Crafted using a regular bolt and a sample of the used poison. Hitting an enemy with it uses up the poison as if it was applied to a thrown melee weapon.

Lesser Explosive Bolts-

Crafted using a regular bolt and a supply of gunpowder extracted from bullets (and maybe the primer as well). Has all the damage of the regular bolt but there is a slight delay as the gunpowder explodes and fragments the bolts tip into the enemy.

Dynamite Bolt-

A heavier crossbow bolt that has a small amount of TNT in it. Explodes with a force slightly less than a stick of dynamite.

Mine Bolt-

Really hard to make, built by dismantling a frag mine and installing the sensor and explosives onto a bolt. The Mine Bolt arms itself as soon as it hits a target. If fired into an enemy it explodes as normal, if fired into a wall or into the ground then it arms itself like a frag mine. Doesn't trigger against people allied with the user.

Electro Bolt-

Has some small energy cells installed on the bolt to create a taser like device. It gives a painful electric shock to the target. Deals fatigue damage (knock them out instead of killing them) in addition to normal crossbow bolt damage.

EMP Bolt-

Delivers an EMP that can deals greater damage against robots.

i would love that!

The very silent attack would be perfect for sneak charakters.

razor bolts which can be crafted using regular knives would also be cool. could have the effect of being more effective against unarmored opponents.

Great ideas. So the bolt scould be crafted from materials to make ammunition. Does anyone know if ammunition has the capability of being modified with the 'x' key? So i could apply certain materials (poison for poison bolt, primer and gun powder for explosive bolts).

I think if there was a shock bolt / tranquilizer bolt, the damage of the bolt should be reduced or made to 0. You could just say that when modifying the bolt, the tip was removed to something less harmless, similar to that of a dart.

And perhaps the mine bolt could require plastic explosives instead?

Has anyone the capacity to do this? I am quite proficient at modeling and use of photoshop but i have no experience of any of the aforementioned things.

Bring back the toy dart gun from FO3!

And then modify it so you can add additional stuff on it!

The toy dart gun doesn't use poison as a ammunition though, so maybe you'll have to modify it by removing that "container" that hangs under it, and modifying it to look more "mechanical"...

I wonder if someone would want to bring back the railway steam cannon...

I'm not sure about changing the ammo, I'm thinking that it would just be a matter of crafting the regular bolts (maybe 1 scrap metal makes 5 crossbow bolts if they are made of metal). And then have various recipes for the other bolts. Like a poisoned bolt is a recipe that involves a dose of poison and a regular crossbow bolt. The Electro bolt uses a crossbow bolt and some batteires and so on.

So you don't modify the bolts in battle, you just craft a bunch of them at a workbench and then carry them around till you need to fire them. And then use the ammo changer button to select different ammo for the crossbow.
