UpJumpedTheDevil Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 I'm trying to do the first quest and I'm in the Rockland Tunnel. Upon trying to exit to the Satellite Relay Station the game crashes. Tried going back out to the wasteland and it also resulted in a crash. Also I had a made a save in there but if I load that or the auto save and try to save again it also crashes. I let Tristian go through the door first and then used the console to movetoqt this made things advance and when I try to go into the actual station it crashes again. Used movetoqt again completed the quest and used it again to go back to the Cidatel and give the stuff to Rothchild. Tried to save and it crashed. I can still load the auto save and the first save I made in there. I tried disabling all mods that had anything to do with Broken Steel but it didn't help.
WastelandAssassin Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 well, many people have problems with savingi'm not sure what is causing this problem, some people say it's bloated saves, but i don't know anyhow, had the same problem, and what i did, was to install FO3Edit (well, it's not really install, just download and use)i used the master update function, and it prevented this problem, and lots of crashes and other problemsbasically, download this from herethen all you need to do, is make a copy of the exe, rename it to FO3MasterUpdate.exe, and run itif it will give you an all clear message (basically an ok or something message, as in no error messages) then it should solve your problemif it does show a problem, just fix it, until you will not get any errorsthat should fix your game just to note, you will have to do a master update every time you change your load order, just so you'll knowhope this will really help you :)
zhemis Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 I had the same problem last night. I was so mad I've never ever had an interest in the main story. So a few days ago I finally started finishing the game and then I get stuck in the stupid relay place. Initially I couldn't quicksave inside the complex. I had to go back to a save before assisting liberty prime, then saved before entering the facility. I deleted the quicksave file as well. Don't know what fixed the problem but I was then able to save inside. As for exiting I removed mart's mutant mod. This did the trick.
UpJumpedTheDevil Posted November 9, 2010 Author Posted November 9, 2010 I don't think I used FO3Edit right. It didn't give me an all clear message or anything. I'm not using MMM or FWE. Resorted to the old disable everything invidiually until I find the problem. Luckily didn't take very long. It was the street lights.
WastelandAssassin Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 so it's all working again??both saving and the area transition??
UpJumpedTheDevil Posted November 9, 2010 Author Posted November 9, 2010 As long as I have the street lights mod turned off,if I turn it on again it goes back to not saving. Must be some conflict with that and Broken Steel. It does crash quite a bit while inside places so would still like to get that master update working in case I didn't do it right.
WastelandAssassin Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 well, follow my instructionsnow, when you run the file, you will see lots of writings, which is how it converts your folders to special ones, don't really understand that, but it worksanyhow, when you'll stop seeing new lines, it will either report an error, or it will give you an ok messageif it reports an error, just try to solve it (it usually isn't hard to do)and run until you get an all clear, and then it should work fine if you still have a problem, you could always read the manual (though it is very long and hard to understand, so just read the master update section for now.......) i hope you can get it to work :)
UpJumpedTheDevil Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 I guess it did do what it was supposed to but it didn't seem to do anything different than it did when I just clicked on it. :P
WastelandAssassin Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I guess it did do what it was supposed to but it didn't seem to do anything different than it did when I just clicked on it. :P this is strange......but i am not 100% sure i understood what exactly you mean by thathave you changed the name of the file, and it still did the same as the original file??if you could explain what you did, and what you meant, i'll try to help you fix this
UpJumpedTheDevil Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 I copied the file to the desktop, renamed it,pasted it back into the folder because of the thing that says keep this with the main file and ran it. Though I've got bigger problems now but that's another topic. I finished Broken Steel anyway. Wanted to try some mod quests but I think it's best to uninstall the game.
