NV Mod in-progress: Vault 420 (V420)

Seems to be the thing to do, so I'll bite. This thread will be my update and "help-me" thread, so I don't have to go digging too much or create multiple threads to get the job done.

Basically, I'm adding another Vault to the Mojave Landscape. Contrary to what the name implies, there aren't any pot references planned... yet. But before I can really get down to brass tacks, there are a few issues I'd like to resolve. Here we go:

Overseer's Office (Problem #1)

For some reason, I can't seem to find an Overseer's desk that isn't rusted out. The one I did find in the GECK, doesn't animate to reveal the tunnel below. Help with this desk problem would be greatly appreciated.

Custom Radio Station

Since V420 is being developed with the help of some local radio DJs, a radio station will be a large part of the quest line(s). While I'm not really that far yet, I am looking for indie rock bands who want to get their tunes heard. If you know of any (please: Rock/Metal/Punk only, no Emo/Hardcore/Raprock), and are 100% sure they're unsigned, please post their contact information here. The better part of the quest ideas I have right now involve building and restarting the V420 radio station, which starts as an SOS signal similar to V101's "Trouble on the Home Front" and ending up as a full broadcast station that can be heard throughout the Mojave.

How That Works

"But Lost, how do you fit modern bands into a post-50's apocalyptic universe?" Simple: Aliens. Without giving too much of the premise away, I've resolved that little nit-pick issue with a common sci-fi cop-out: Multiverse theory. The overall story of V420 will reflect how modern tunes found their way into the Fallout world.

The Goal

I really want to add a few hours of game play at the very least. More than four if I can help it. I've already got a few quests outlined (mostly radio-related so far). Full voice acting is also planned, and if you want to get in on the act, post here or contact me directly, I'll let you know what's being planned for VOs.

Stargate Mod?

I remember a few Stargate mods for Oblivion, which made no sense, really. I haven't really dug around for one yet. But if anyone hears of one made for NV (or even F3 that could be ported), please let me know. A Stargate is more believable in the Fallout universe, and I've always had the notion of using it to teleport to a new landmass. Way beyond me at this point, but would be a good extension of the basic V420 concept. Keep your eyes peeled...

But yeah, for now, my big issue is clearing up the Overseer's desk problem. Apart from the office piece not quite fitting into my grid structure (it's off by a few pixels, or so it seems so far), it's just frustrating that I can't find the right desk mesh for the job. Help and suggestions are appreciated ^,^

First of all: Always introduce your mod in one thread and ask questions about issues in other threads. Not a lot of people want to read a long introduction about your mod just to find out you are having a problem and you will get better and more responses this way.

Second: Don't introduce your mod without screenshots and a pretty good idea of what you are doing.

3rd: Expect to spend the next year or so of your life with this project and to learn every aspect of game design to get it done. Modding is hard work. Don't make a massive project for your first project, start small and work your way up. Remember that it takes a large team of people, being paid by the hour, to make DLC that is 4-6 hours long within a few months. It will take a year or so for you to accomplish this goal if it is up to Bethesda's or Obsidian's quality.

4: Don't expect others to help you out with anything other than advice and resources and maybe a script or two here and there. Most mod designers work alone and need to expect to work alone. Call out for voice actors when everything is done and almost ready to ship.

5. Use Vault numbers that are closer to the numbers within the world space that you are adding it too.

6. Obsidian and Bethesda leave out a lot of components that are important and valuable snap kit resources for the modding community. It is clear that they didn't spend much time making it any easier on us. Your desk is a missing piece. A piece that I need as well and there may be legal issues with moving it over from Fallout 3. :(
