Recreating the FWE Experience in New Vegas

So, here I am, wandering the beautiful Desert Wastelands of the Mojave, and overall my impression is that I really do like Fallout: New Vegas.

Thing is, the fighting, crippling effects & cures, and overall Harshness of the vanilla game seem woefully lacking. Not bad, mind ye. Just lacking...specifically lacking that Fallout Wanderer's Edition quality, in my opinion. And the Hardcore/Hardlycore Mode just doesn't do it. I like it, and think it's necessary, but it's just food and water, and not even harsh enough at that. Ever been in a desert? I have. It's HOT. I guess they just didn't want to make it too realistic, but you're going to need more than a couple of bottles a day, let me tell ya. Anyway...

Now, while we (some of us, at least) wait with eager breath for the FO:NV FWE *whew* to come out, others of us (I at leaast) are busy searching out mods that can make up for and take off from where vanilla FO:NV leaves off. Hardcore mode just doesn't do enough for me.

So what have you all come up with?

For a more vital combat, the best I've encountered so far is this mod called Realistic Battle and Dynamic Combat, which greatly but not too much enhances the lethality of the overall wasteland experience. Still not quite there to what FWE for FO3 was, but the closest approximation I can find.

As for the rest? I'm left kinda scratchin' me noggin'.

Doctor bags are just new stims with a different name. Same one-shot wonder cure under a different name.

Anybody else trying to fix up an approximation of an FWE cocktail while we wait? What have you come up with?

Well I'd have to look em up, but there's an ambient temperature mod, which I think links with thirst :) that might help you out with dehydration, I'll try and look em up but I do know they were in gameplay/effects, by the sound of it you've got something to fix autoaim? as much as it does make the game a bit more FPS, there's a noheadshot one that'll make things interesting, I wasn't using that one but the one I was using only let me get hit in the head once and I was down from full health anyway, normally ended badly (even with helmets sometimes) and I'd at least usually suffer a concussion from a headshot if I survived it.

I'm hoping for MMM (Martigen's monster mod I think it was called) and make sure you get a mod that unlevels creatures/npc's (You might have it already) while you're waiting, I ran into deathclaws at a really early lvl, Only survived the fight by running for it and firing like a maniac, I ran out of stimpaks by the end of the fight but got a lucky shot in and took the second one down (Bloody pack hunters) - experience was worth it though :D.

There's also a mod for modified/more powerful explosions, they'll knock you down and/or send you flying, not cool when you're in a big fight - makes it much more challenging if you combine it with a mod that makes cars explosive, though that's a two-edged sword, if you see a pack of enemies hanging by a car it's great, if one of them is firing at you and you're near a car... well it's likely to end badly for you. and if you do survive with the knockdown mod, they'll be putting bullets in you/hacking away at you while you're lying there struggling to get back up :)

There are a few I haven't tried, some that lower everyones health, that might be cool to try and really force you to focus on stealth and taking the perfect shot from the right place.

Hope this has helped some, If I get the time I'll look through my mod-list and see if I can recommend any of them

Yes, it does help, thanks.

Hmm, ambient temperature, eh? That sounds interesting. There are so many mods coming out for NV that can't really keep up. It seems that the daily updates list goes on and on at times!

I think I've seen the deadlier explosions mod around, but I don't know about the headshots one. I think I remember one called realistic headshots. Maybe I'll check that out.

I guess I just got used to carrying around all those medical braces... :wallbash:

Nice!

I'm off to check it out.

I've already got the no auto aim mod up and running Note: *much harder to hit anything=much more realism*, plus the explosive knockdown mod, and for Crafting/Building fans of which I am one, I've just included the Craft Overhaul which is, in a single word, awesome  , in the way it makes connections and ever-increasing recipes for constructing arms, items and armor (one of which I made yesterday was a splint to aid a crippled limb! gorgeous). Similar to this but for food I've included in my mod list Intuitive Cooking, which opens up cooking like Craft Overhaul does for crafting.

I've found, too, that the Harder Hardcore Rates was just what I was looking for for increased food and water needs. I'm currently using the Refined Hardcore Rates esp, which doubles to triples needs. I actually found myself scouring the ground for buffalo gourd seeds to eat the other day! Ha! And if that's not Post-Apocalyptic Roleplaying, I don't know what is.

I added Realistic Headshots on top of Realistic Battle and Dynamic Combat, and that really does the trick (or at least as much of the trick as I am currently capable of perceiving). I've had a few instances already of some wasteland pecker shooting me right in the head and going from full health in my trooper helmet and reinforced leather to Death Cam time.

you could use this: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36419

you can also adjust the multiplier with nvedit..

Im playing f3 for the second time after vanilla with fwe with a bunch of other mods and its simply amazing..

so many new features and everything is so easily adjustable with menus. And default values are really great.. Only thing I changed was increased need for food water and that zoom isnt a toggle. Wandering at night drunk trying to go home without night vision was quite an experience.. And the bike is great too.. Normal fast travel makes the game too easy..

I cant wait for fwe nv.. Are they making it?

WizardofAtlantis - I think I forgot to mention harder hardcore rates, I used the unlevelled lists as well :) - I'll have to add it - Sasamsa mentioned a bike! that sounds pretty cool actually, I think I'll be checking that mod out later.

I'm not sure if they're making fwe NV but let's hope it just needs to be "ported" (Don't know about that, I don't play with building mods so much as most of the good ideas are done already hahaha)
