MrFlesh
I'm running QTP3 on a clean install of Oblivion (alt start, OBSE, OBGE v2, Oblivion script optimization and UOP only). I used the TOTO tutorial and decided to use the following suggested features QTP3Better Tiling 2048 LOD TexturesKoldorn Strong Noise Optimised Distant Land MAX Qarl's Compressed 4096 LOD Normal Maps When I start everything looks like it should with qtp3 then the game locks for a split second when it unlocks everything has a black border around it like a cartoon. Can anyone help?
Smooth613
You need to read the documentation for things you download, really. Your issue is not an issue but a feature of OBGE. Since it's a feature it can be turned on or off like many other features of that mod. The second where you describe as a "lock" is when the game initializes INIs and loads shaders. You can see this in logs or the console. This pause can be very brief and in some cases a couple of seconds depending on how many INIs and shaders you're loading. Documentation, it's your friend. New to OBGE. Wasn't around when I was modding Oblivion in the past. Which feature is it? One other thing I wanted to bring up. I run an ATI card and there was once a patch that allowed you to run HDR and AA at the same time. They implemented it in a later catalyst version. Everything I've found online states all you have to do is enable AA in catalyst and HDR in Oblivion, but it doesn't seem to be working.
Smooth613
Again, you need to read the OBGE documentation. It's included with the download of the mod. You would then know you cannot use HDR and AA, for any card, with OBGE. It's simply not possible at this time, and who knows if it ever will be. But there are other options such as NFAA filter. Again, included in the OBGE Core download package. Read the ReadMe... Everything you're asking or reporting as problems is covered already. I know you're gonna think I'm a donkey for what I keep saying but,.. Read the documentation before you ask these simple, covered a thousand times already, questions. Now if these were some hard to find, Google for 2 days non stop questions then I'd be more than willing to directly answer you or link you to the information. But this is not the case here. Good luck.

Good luck. Found it. The fact that something like that was included let alone turned on by default is a classic case of why you need a development head to reign in the rank and file. It's there for no other reason than it could be. I read the read me two weeks ago. Nobody that isn't into settings fetish would remember that (CelShader+EdgeAA.fx) was tripped when they uploaded QTP3, Better Tiling 2048 LOD Textures, Koldorn Strong Noise, Optimised Distant Land MAX, Qarl's Compressed 4096 LOD Normal Maps. Be reasonable. I have been googling for weeks on every other mod, compatibility hack, ini tweak, and tutorial for every other mod. Still don't find any reference to NFAA What does the acronym stand for?
Smooth613
That shader wasn't tripped when you added those mods you just listed. The shader was activated when you installed OBGE. The other mods have absolutely nothing to do with OBGE and the shaders associated with OBGE. Infact I'm pretty sure, like 99% sure, with the support plugin ALL shaders default to ON when you install it. They always have since the advent of the support plugin. So instead of bashing the OBGE team for their hard, and excellent, work you should try actually reading documentation for it. Don't glance at it, read it. And telling me to be reasonable, in what comes across as a smart ass tone, is obsurd. I think you should be the one to rethink what you're saying here. I've done nothing but try to help you, and point you in the right direction. Don't be upset with me because you didn't read the documentation for the mod you downloaded, just because I'm not willing to hold your hand through every step. You're just ignoring information that's right in front of you, and I can never understand why people do that, then blame others for their laziness. Check out this quote,.. top of the Description Page, which includes a hotlink to the project thread. The Bethesda Softworks Official Project Thread Please refer to the official thread linked above for the latest information on this project and for any support. You are far more likely to get help for any problems you have on the thread than in the comments section of this page. Make sure to read the OP thoroughly before posting, to make sure your query has not been already answered. The link above may point to an older thread. The latest official forum thread can be found at http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/forum/25-mods/ by searching for "Oblivion Graphics Extender". This is also where you are most likely to find the latest files. Again by your last question, I see you haven't looked over the shader section of the ReadMe. It lists all current shaders and a description. I will however, this time, tell you. It's Normal Filter Anti-Aliasing shader. Are you sure you downloaded the most recent files? The BethSoft link, from the description page, and the Google Repository are always up to date. I just checked here on TESNexus and the files there are up to date too. So I know you have this information in front of you, that's why I'm reluctant to spoon feed it to you. Please use your resources. Like I said earlier... If this was hidden, expert level (lol?) Google-ing, search for days on end, hard to find, information then I would have taken a totally different approach. I'm always more than willing to help folks around here. Just check around the forums, I help out on the daily. But I'm not going to spoon feed folks. Good luck.
MrFlesh
I stand by my statement on why that would be included (without all elements required of cell shading) let alone defaulted on. It doesn't make sense. When you first start a new car are all the lights on, wipers running, squirting cleaner, heat and music blasting, then you have to go through and shut it all off? No. The only the things that are on are the bare essential things a common driver would need to go down the road. Nowhere in the documentation does it state that the shaders are default on. That link doesn't point to the direct thread for OBGE. OBGE is also not on the first page and you can't use the search function without signing up. So what, now I have to sign up to another site? Let alone 90% of the links that go to that forum from TES are bad. If I'm coming across as a smart ass it is only because you are coming across as someone who thinks everyone else should know better because you do. You seem to have the opinion that everyone should be an expert on the backend of Oblivion if they want to enjoy modding. My evidence for this is you naming Normal Filter Anti-Aliasing shader as NFAA.....like I should know what that is. According to google it is: National Field Archery Association. Throw in the words oblvion or graphics and your top choices are Ragnark or Kid Kasting respectively. "You would then know you cannot use HDR and AA, for any card, with OBGE." I'm still trying to find this in the documentation. Is it in the plugin read me, the obge read me, the ini settings, effects files, scripting? You call me lazy because I don't want to decypher 6 different note pad files using vocabulary I'm not familiar with. I call the makers lazy for not putting their documentation in one place, let alone in an easy to read manner. Look at the wyre bashes site....that's how you do documentation. 90% of the people that download wyre, obse, obge, obme (does anything use this?) have no clue and don't care about what it does. They download it because the combat or magic mod they want to try out tells them to. I'm one of these people. I don't get off on deciphering poor documentation written in one big side scrolling string in notepad or playing with .ini settings. I have no interest in learning what [PluginInterOp], bUseLegacyCompiler, bUseRAWZfix is beyond getting what I want to work. It's not that I'm lazy it is that my intention is to swing a digital sword at some digital goblins not take scripting 101. If I wanted to put months worth of effort into it I'd just go take fencing lessons.
Smooth613
Okay you are truly amazing. This will be my last post here, hotlinks and all since you apparently are missing EVERYTHING. This is a perfect example of why this forum gets thrashed all the time. Alright so here we go... The link on the Description Page for Oblivion Graphics Extender v2 to the Bethesda Softowrks Official Project Thread is indeed the current thread that is currently at this time on the first page of the forums. Next a quote from the one and only consolidated Oblivion Graphics Extender ReadMe.html that is included with the OGGEv2 Core download of the mod. (Yes the older versions didn't have such consolidated or complete information but just a few hours ago I pointed you to the current info, so that's no excuse.) In the ReadMe it states the following...Q: Once I got the effects to work, my AA disappeared? WHY?!? A: The method used to expose the information used to read the depth buffer is incompatible with Anti-Aliasing. This is reported to be the case on both ATI and NVIDIA graphics cards, although owners of ATI graphics cards can force AA through ATI Tray Tools without problems. The only solution is to edit the obse.ini file in your My Documents\My Games\Oblivion folder and change this line: [DepthBuffer] bUseDepthBuffer=1 to: [DepthBuffer] bUseDepthBuffer=0 This will however cause any effect that uses the depth buffer to stop working properly. This currently includes the all SSAO and Depth of Field shaders, Godrays, NormalFilterAA and CelShader+EdgeAA shaders. Of course when you Google a handful of letters you'll get multiple irrelevant responses. But I referred to NFAA in direct association with OBGE in response to an issue with Anti-Aliasing. I also mentioned NFAA was documented in the OBGE Readme,.. so what you say about your Google results are pointless, and irrelevant. I was even concerned you didn't have the correct information earlier and told you where to get the most recent. I guess you ignored that too.Are you sure you downloaded the most recent files? The BethSoft link, from the description page, and the Google Repository are always up to date. I just checked here on TESNexus and the files there are up to date too. So I know you have this information in front of you, that's why I'm reluctant to spoon feed it to you. Please use your resources. Again you bash the developers because you are ignorant of the information they present to you. It's not my fault nor their fault you don't read the file or have the most recent, been around for months information. Read the threads you've been linked to for even more information. They stay on the first page or two ALL the time. And no I don't think everyone should know everything, I've covered this already. At one point I didn't know jack about Oblivion and modding, or OBGE, etc... But guess what I did? I read the flippin documentation and experimented. You learn the most from mistakes. You're making me out to be a "know it all" because I won't spoon feed you like an infant. I'm trying to point you to information that's readily available to anyone. What strikes me as utterly amazing is you use Wrye Bash documentation as an example of great, which I agree it is but most people find it daunting, but you find much simpler, descriptive, readily available information to be some task nothing short of solving the wonders of the galaxy. So go get the most recent download from the TESNexus page, that you've been linked to multiple times, and read the documentation. You will have all of this information that you declare is nigh impossible to find, and would require a degree in software, right in front of you in a single HTML file. Guess what it's even in a folder called Docs, shocking I know. I'm done here, you're beyond reason. I tried to help you as I would anyone else and you just fire back with your ignorance and laziness to actually click links or open folders. So yeah I guess in this response I am being that smartass you thought I was earlier. But now it's for a reason, and because I'm aggravated by your, for lack of a better word, ignorance. And I imagine the reason most effects are turned on is to show people they are actually there. Otherwise people would never know the capabilities of the software they just download. Then you'll have the flip side of the coin and folks would say... "I downloaded this to make my game look supercool like those screenshots you have up but it ain't workin!!. Wait you meant I have to turn ON every option, that's stupid." So you see, you cannot please everyone. In the end I still hope you can get the thing working, that's the reason I initially responded to this thread, to help you solve an issue. It's super easy to use OBGE. You're just making it hard for no reason. So good luck and good day.
MrFlesh
"This is a perfect example of why this forum gets thrashed all the time." Yeah I'm not worried about people thinking I'm L33T. I want to kill a goblin with a sword. You pointed me to that thread and at 10 pm I told you it wasn't on the front page now it is yes. But thats because at 3 in the morning someone posted something in it. It's now 5am and it is almost off the front page again. This is no way to handle your documentation. Sticky it or better yet create a site. You can spend months writing a program but can't take 15 minutes to setup a wordpress blog? Talk about lazy. As for your quote about AA, I saw that and it doesn't answer my question. Which is why I asked here..... "The method used to expose the information used to read the depth buffer is incompatible with Anti-Aliasing. This is reported to be the case on both ATI and NVIDIA graphics cards, although owners of ATI graphics cards can force AA through ATI Tray Tools without problems." The read me for OBGE says AA wont work because of OBGE but in the faq it states that ATI cards should have no problem running AA through the sys tray tool. My original question (if you even read it) was that I have HDR on in Oblivion and AA in my sys tray but the AA doesn't seem be working....why? ", been around for months information." Yeah and with me just walking in last week with no knowledge of OBGE I should just magically know that it exists and shame on me for not being up with the trends (I missed the skinny jeans one too) See how I think you have this opinion I should just know s..t, because all the cool kids just know? "What strikes me as utterly amazing is you use Wrye Bash documentation as an example of great, which I agree it is but most people find it daunting, but you find much simpler, descriptive, readily available information to be some task nothing short of solving the wonders of the galaxy." You want to know why that is? Because I don't have a problem with daunting. I have a problem when I have to go to three websites, two forums, deal with some smartass, login three times, wait 4 hours for the read me to appear,so I can read a single line of gobbletygook 20 times longer than my screen is wide, just to find out it doesn't answer my question & turn off some black f..king lines that should have been on in the first place. Just so I can swing a f..king sword at a goblin. ""I downloaded this to make my game look supercool like those screenshots you have up but it ain't workin!!. Wait you meant I have to turn ON every option, that's stupid."" No. Nobody that buys software or anything else pulls it out of the box with the power on. How many times have you unboxed a running blender? Okay got the key in my inventory.....you think this is intuitive and the designers are not lazy huh? Is that why they couldn't have been bothered to give the features an understandable name, a slider under each feature or putting a simple OFF option under each shader. This is the pinnacle of everyone wanting to do the cool work and nobody wanting to do the useful work. What am I suppose to do make a printout of the values and what each of these AAffAd3BC things do? And the explanations in each .fx file is a joke. Take your lazy speech over to wrinklyninja. EDIT: I fixed it by deleting it. The borderlands crap wasn't even on. When something you make is not usable by your target audience it is an epic fail. bben46
Strike #1 & 2 for Mrflesh - #1 criticizing someone for attempting to help him in a problem thread. Please get off your high horse and at least try to be polite. Being a jerk is a sure way to drive off any help. Now that you have 'exposed' one of the more helpful people on the site as a 'smartass' That gets strike #2 for flaming, good luck in getting more help next time.Bben46, Moderator
