Mod beginner: So, how do you do it?

I am new at using mods for Fallout 3. I may have picked too many to start out with. I was ready to install them but I am thinking.. this is kind of a mess. Should I only start out with a few mods and then gradually add more? Is there a limit to how many I should have installed at one time? How do you guys go about it?

Hey there Spectro, welcome to modding.

I don't use many mods myself really so I'm not sure how many mods you can have without things going wrong. It's probably wisest to upload mods one or two at a time, especially with more complex mods. That way you can check to make sure everything is working all right in game and if you run in to any problems it's easier to find what's causing it.

I would say it's best to get a couple of mods and play about with them a bit. It's easy to get mod fever and download a load of bits or spend ages making a mesh or texture and then forget to actually play the game.

Do you have FOMOD and Archive Invalidation Invalidated? They make it much easier to get mods up and running.

Jim.

Start with one mod. be sure it works before adding any more. It's best to start with a simple mod that doesn't change too many things. Be sure to read all of the documentation first - it's no fun to spend an hour trying to get a mod to work, then discovering it needs something you don't have.

Then add mods one or two at a time, testing each time. Adding a bunch will not really save time as you will lose any time in trying to figure out which mod is causing the problem.
