jtcbrown
So I know I had a quite hefty list of mods running at one time with not too much trouble. Just updated to Windows 7 not long ago and now having a world of trouble getting mods working. I noticed that many mods seem to indicate they don't work with Direct2Drive version of FO3, and then there were some special instructions for moving the .ESM files for DLC out of the Windows Live folders. I am trying to do the full FOIP - FWE, EVE, FOOK, MMM, WMK.... and again, had it all working oh this time last year. Did some troubleshooting, made my merged patch, ended up scrapping WMK and a few other small mods that FO3Edit refused to load, and then FO3Edit could make the merged patch - even did the MasterUpdate afterwards - but FO won't load. It doesn't CTD anymore, it just gets up to the slide with the Power Helmet graphic and hangs, then finally gets a Windows 7 error about it having an error only after I CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up task manager. Working on load order now, but a few questions: 1. I have FO3 from D2D, but do NOT appear to have StarForce - so am assuming that is not my problem but would like to be sure. 2. I copied the .ESM files out of the Windows Live folders, but there was other data there I didn't copy. I then renamed the files to .bak, no change, then deleted the files entirely, still no change, debating on (and will likely test here shortly.) Do I move just the .ESM files out, or delete the entire folder structure that contains the files (a numbered folder in the path C:\Users\{me}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Xlive\DLC)? Twilightinsanity
D2D versions of all games have an encrypted EXE file for copy protection. D2D sucks. You cant mod the D2D versions of any game as far as I know... I had the D2d version of F3 and I ended up having to trade it in for retail version to use mods... Sorry for the bad news... jtcbrown
And they deleted the reply that actually had a useful suggestion. I ain't buying the game twice, that is for sure. But again I know I had it working at one point.
