roguemystic
Hi guys! I have never had to download, extract and install mods before and I'm at quite a loss. I've had a read through Thandal's Using DA Mods for Dummies mini tutorial and I have to say, that just confused me even more. I think I need a play by play explanation of what to do, and what 'programs' to use as I'm not having much luck wading through it by myself. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thandal
Hey Rogue; I've had a read through Thandal's Using DA Mods for Dummies mini tutorial and I have to say, that just confused me even more. Now I'm concerned that I didn't make it clear enough. What was confusing? I think I need a play by play explanation of what to do, and what 'programs' to use as I'm not having much luck wading through it by myself.Unless you're using one of a just a handful of highly specialzed mods, the only program you need is the "DAUpdater.exe" that came with the game. It's in your "\Program FIles\Dragon Age\bin_ship" folder. It is used to install ".dazip" files, which is the way the offical DLC is packaged. Many modders use it too. Almost all other mods are simply copied into your "\Bioware\Dragon Age\pakages\core\override" folder. Any help would be very much appreciated!Maybe if you tell us what mods you're trying to use, we might be able to help you better.
roguemystic
Okay, I figured out how to use some of them. (I re-read it after a few weeks and it made total sense, so no need to worry!) but I'm still stumped on what to do with .rar files. I cannot for the life of me work them out! Any ideas on how to use them? :)

Any ideas on how to use them? :)Glad things are starting to work for you, roguemystic. ".rar" files are just compressed files, like ".zip" files. While the most common utility program (on the PC) for extracting them is probably WinRar, the current version of WinZip also knows how to handle them. (Go back and re-read "Item a." of my mini-tutorial, I've updated it. )

Please Help :sad:Welcome, Jester! Where did you download DA for the Mac? Is this D2D, or Steam? I gather that they both place things in slightly different folder structures than the retail disc install. But in either case, DAUpdater.exe should be part of the package. It is what the game uses to install the DLC when you obtain it through the in-game "Downloadable Content" process, (so it's got to be there somewhere!) On a retail disc (Win 7) PC it's found here: "C:\[Program Files (x86)]\Dragon Age\bin_ship\..."
