NifSkope not loading textures

Recommended Posts

So I wanted to retexture Liberty Prime. I load his mesh into NifSkope, mesh loads fine. But when I want to load a texture that I made, it just... doesn't load. He just sits there as a blank mesh. I've tried sharing the files with all users on the computer... I've tried running it in compatibility mode... I've tried running it as administrator... I've tried changing the texture formats... I've tried all kinds of things and I still haven't gotten any results. I'm using the latest version of NifSkope. I'm on a Windows 7 64 bit, 500GB Hard Drive, 2GB System memory and an AMD Athlon II 170u processor. (Just listing these in case it's important.) Also I'm only getting this problem with Liberty Prime. I downloaded an Oblivion mod to practice retexturing and it loaded the textures fine.

Hi,

I'm not sure why you do all this work, if you only want to change the textures then you play with the libertyprime_x.dds files and put them back in Data/textures/creatures/libertyprime folder. That's almost it.

If you do really want to change the .NIF file paths to another folder path I still think you need to at least put it under Data/textures/ - somewhere - folder if the game will accept the change.

Can you elaborate a bit what you want to achieve? It sounds that you try do more than "just" change the texture since you started diving into NifSkope already.

I want to see what Liberty Prime would look like with my retextures without going in-game. My reasons for this are, 1, I have BSAs and I'm afraid to tamper with those, 2, it's quicker to view them in NifSkope, and 3, I have more than one texture so I don't want to have to go and move files back and forth.

Ah,

Normally NifSkope finds the assets self if you open the File tab and select Resource Files, it will show where it searches.

You never need/should tamper with the game .BSA files who told you that? The .BSA is your safe house these files contains your original game assets in a packed way.

The nice thing as I told you is that textures you put in the Data/Texture folder and mimic the original place of the texture (in the .BSA) will override what you have in the .BSA. If your not happy remove the file and the texture in .BSA will take over.

All this of course needs the genius ArchiveInvalidationInvalidadted!.BSA that make it all like a walk in the park.

This function is inbuilt in FOMM if you run that tool. You can make this file by hand with notepad also, but when you can get it fully automated why bother.

For the NifSkope issue this is the same. If Nifskope is setup right it will fetch textures from your game folder, and if Data/textures/creatures/libertyprime folder contains the textures you want to look at they will show up.

Hope this helps a bit to get your textures showing
