I know it's been a while, but since this wasn't solved and a lot of people might have this same issue, I'll post one of the causes and fix to this problem, instead of creating a new thread.

  • This happens when you are using a race and after deleting a mod, or even changing the plugin that contained that race, the game can't find it, because the EditorId is different than before or because it doesn't exist anymore.

  • Example: I created a race for my character, the race was called GreyRace and the plugin was myRace.esp. This plugin only added a custom race that I created to the game. After creating several others, for Willow, Veronica, Boone, I ended up having these plugins in my load order: myRace, myCustomWillow, myCustomBoone, myCustom Veronica.

  • So I decided that I wanted to merge those plugins, so I would have only one, that changed all of them. After merging them, I started the game and noticed that I was stuck on the ground, but all the other companions were fine, with no problems, you could even talk to them. TCL, which is no clipping mode didn't fix the problem, showracemenu or showbarbermenu didn't work either, they just crashed the game. Why? Because it was a race problem, after you type one of those commands to show the Chargen menus, the game will look for the race that you had previously selected for your character. Since it can't find it, the game will crash.

  • Solution: The easier one is to get that plugin that I had before merging (myRace.esp) and placing it back to the game Data folder, then I loaded the game and changed my character's race ingame with showracemenu to any VANILLA RACE, like Caucasian for instance, then I saved the game. After that I merged my mods and loaded the game with my new "myCustomRaces.esp" mod replacing the other 4, the game ran fine and my character was using the vanilla race, so I wasn't stuck on the ground. Then I just changed the race back to my Custom race and everything is fine.

  • So the reason is: You either deleted or changed a mod (plugin) that added or changed something in the race your character was using.

  • Fix: Before deleting or changing anything, MAKE SURE your character isn't using that race. Change it to any Vanilla race, THEN you can do anything that affects your character's race.
