What's going on?

I think the real issue has been lost somewhere in this thread; said issue being that someone was either selling or spare-changing to give people access to their mods. If you see that here, it's against the rules, so report it. If you see it somewhere else, remember that Nexus has free mods, and will not allow people to force payment for their mods, or ask for donations. Might want to report any payment demands to Bethsoft, as well, since at very least, it will give them a reason to cease-and-desist whoever is charging for a mod that's meant to work with New Vegas, Fallout 3, or whatever. Regardless of whether you created the mod yourself, if you're making money off of it, and it's clearly intended for a Bethsoft product, I'm pretty sure there's a law SOMEWHERE that requires that Bethsoft get a bit of compensation for making money off of their advertising campaigns, etc. It's like releasing an updated roster, with new teams, etc, for a sports game like Madden, and charging for it. You can bet EA would be after that person/group with a pitchfork and torch.

On the subject of "I can understand it", I cannot. I'm a modder, albeit a rookie one at the moment, but no one is strapping me to my chair and forcing me to create mods. No one is standing over me, checking to make sure I do it their way. Charging for mods is ridiculous, as is spare-changing, aka asking for donations. I refer to it as spare-changing, because it's no more dignified than the homeless guys that stand on street corners asking for change. Granted, the homeless deserve your spare change; they're genuinely in a rough spot, and anyone in a car, passing by, with a handful of bills or coins in their pocket is well-off compared to them. Still, it isn't dignified. No one wants to be the guy on a corner with a cardboard sign. Nothing against the homeless here, I'm just saying it looks upsetting to most people, and that actually gives them a desire to donate. With a modder, it's nowhere near that level. It's just some dude or chick making an excuse to get people to give them money. They had the money to buy the game, not to mention a system capable of running it. They don't need your money. They're doing well. I'm sure some uppity, righteous person will take offense to me calling donation-beggers a bunch of moochers, but face the facts. It's true.

No, that's not the issue, as already been clarified in previous replies.

No one has forced anyone to pay for mods. Again, this is not the issue, and I wish people would stop confusing the issue. It's quite disturbing to me that more than a few people do not seem to know the definition of 'donation.'

Really? You think Bethesda will come after the Nexus for the income made via donations and financial sponsors which goes towards helping to foot the bill for the server space and bandwidth?

Now you are totally missing the point. As I've tried to explain in a previous reply, it's not (just) about 'money.'
