Brand new Comp...Don't understand why Oblivion is crawling to a ha

So I've got a brand new HP computer,

Core i7 processor

1.6 GHz

6 GB RAM

Nvidia GeForce GT 230M video

 

I simply can't get this game to run smoothly. I've reinstalled it several times but still nothing. I've set it up to have the following mods so far:

Shivering Isles

Knights of the Nine

Official Patch 1.2

Unofficial Patch

Darnified UI

Unique Landscapes

Natural Environments

 

 

I can't get more than 3 minutes into the character creation page, let alone walking around the prison cell before the game grinds to a halt and the sound coming out of the computer starts sputtering and making static-y noises.

 

Any idea what is going on? I don't understand how it's so slow with such a brand new computer.

so what is the definition of crash? It just starts running super slow and sends my CPU usage way up into the high %'s.

hmmm, so when I use the oblivionlauncher.exe to "reset defaults" and uncheck everything except the oblivion.edm, it seems to run just fine at 1600x900 resolution. I played for about 10 minutes into a new game and no hiccups. any idea which of these mods could be the problem? I know the landscapes, natural enviro and darnified are huge upgrades. any ideas?
