Need help making a helmet

So I figured out I'm kinda in a rut making melee weapons, and tried making a Roman Coolus C helmet. Well, it's got a bowl and a brow band and texture so far.

 

Now the way I do weapons is basically:

 

- export the mesh to .obj

- load a copy of an existing weapon in NifSkope

- import OBJ

- stripify

- copy the NiTriStrips node

- paste over that of the old weapon

 

Then adjust textures, etc. I've done that so many times, I could do it with my eyes closed by now.

 

I tried the exact same with my spun brass bowl mesh and the centurion helmet. It sucked. All I get in game is some triangles from the helmet around my character's ankles.

 

Obviously I'm doing something wrong there.

 

Can someone give me a little help please?
