yoyoguy678
So I'm going through "My First Vault" tutorial right now but when I use the snap to grid the piece goes all over the place, unlike the tutorial. In the preferences it is set on the default 64.
mynameistooshort
The snap to grid may already be on, it might be that you're trying to set it to something it's already at, I find the GECK has a lot of cricky things...
Interfer0
Check the Z axis of your piece. If those are off you it will look like pieces are jumpy. Its always better to duplicate your piece with CRTL+D then to drag a new one into the world. Then use CRTL+F to change your piece to the one you need. yoyoguy678
I made a video showing what's happening. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VwdGtGogPQ
Interfer0
Your first pieces wasn't snapped to grid I think, or perhaps the snap settings were at 32 then. Select everything, and move it with snap to grid enabled. Then try again. Thats the same software I use for my videos too.
yoyoguy678
Tried that with no luck. I also noticed that the peices are dropping down a bit when I move them with snap to grid enabled.
yoyoguy678
Anytime I duplicate something and try to move it, it will move somewhat and (up or down in my case) and then won't line up with the other piece.

FutureVisions
go to File--> Preferences and click "snap to reference".Then select "choose reference from reference window" and click on a wall piece that is already snapped. All your new pieces will now snap to that one.Keep in mind tthat you might have to do this everytime you re-open the Geck and want to change that cell's layout. Im not sure why this happens but sometimes the initial snap reference gets a bit off. I usually tend to work with a selected reference from the window instead when it happens.
