  1. 1. Is New Vegas too small?

Recommended Posts

I've heard plenty of people complaining that New Vegas wasn't what they thought they'd find. We got: 4 working casinos, a bombed-out-for-no-apparant-reason industrial complex, some blocked off offices, a crap ghetto ruled by Elvis impersonators (actually pretty cool) and an airport.

My idea is to:

1. surround the entire city (excluding fiend territory and suburbs) with a concrete wall, like the crimson caravan set up. This obscures distances and allows the following.

2. Re-divide Vegas into districts, like DC, with an extended monorail connecting them all (or, if you're criminal, the sewer system)

3. Build the districts to center around exciting parts of Las Vegas (like Fremont, McCarran, the Strip...) or necessary parts of any city (offices, industrial buildings, apartments). Oh, and make the strip have more casinos and be Strip-ier.

I've got a very (VERY) basic starting point, but I don't understand any game elements beyond dungeon design and some lighting.

So who's with me?

I agree but I find the whole scale of the game to be too small. I don't know how many times I've seen a water tower over the hill and gotten excited and then I look at the world map and discover "Oh, that's Primm" (or Nipton or whatever).

Yeah tis a shame they made the game so small in comparison to F3

I agree, with one small caveat: While it's true that the PLAYABLE worldspace in FalloutNV is smaller than in FO3, the actual worldspace is approx. 20 percent larger; the only problem is, as much as 40 percent of is is UNPLAYABLE at the moment. Whether this was done to preserve space for future DLC content, or as a "here, have at it" to modders, is anyone's guess, but it IS there...

Yeah, the game definitely isn't as mod-friendly as Fallout 3, but the goal of this project is to focus on the city. There are no spare parts or alternative designs when making new buildings, so we need to import models from FO3 or make new ones ourselves. I actually made the Luxor more Vegas-like by doubling the main building and rotating both of them around the dome/casino.

Well, it's definite that no models from FO3 may be used publicly (i.e. in mods) so new ones will probably need to be made. Your idea with the Luxor is brilliant- more modders should think outside the box like that. Also, are any of the REAL casinos from Vegas going to make an appearance? Wouldn't it be cool to see Legion soldiers in Caesar's Palace?
