watreghost
tes4 gecko tells me that it cant convert plugins to master files, which i need to do before i can make mods not based on vanilla content (for the most part). i also tried installing wrye bash but i had trouble doing so. i didnt read any instructions and its setup was too elaborate for me to want to deal with it. I only want this particular feature. omod is just fine for getting my mods working. when i try to convert it says that is unable to do so. prior to this it says... I/O Error (access is denied)(native method) and some other stuff that i didnt think was as important to type out. I am not that great with computers but up until this point I have had no problem when following instructions given online. I'd like to be able to use custom races for my cmPartners but until this is fixed, im dead-ended

You probably have windows 7 or vista and have your oblivion installed in c:\Program Files. You might try running the TesGecko program with "Run as Administrator" to get that part to work ---- but the TES Construction Set will also have permission problems too. You really should uninstall your oblivion and then reinstall it into a location such as c:\games\oblivion to avoid windows security issues. With Wrye Bash, you MUST read the install instructions in order to get it to install properly. Actually, several of the popular and more complex mods also require that you read the installation direction - even some of the omod-ready ones. You might want to make a habit of reading any instructions that the mod or tool author provides for you.
watreghost
i usually do read instructions but it was late at night and i was annoyed. I guess i could reinstall oblivion in a different directory but how would that effect my current mods and everything else that is connected to oblivion? Take a look at Bben46's Reinstall Oblivion Procedure article and follow his instructions. He includes requiring you to back up your stuff (and tells you how and what) and how to restore your originally installed mods once you've loaded oblivion into the new directory.
