devinpatterson
And devin I would love to see that happen, I'm more then down to join in the conversation. I'm not able to contribute more then that sadly due to crap PC but I have an alright understanding of the games limits in a tech sense and a really would love to see the world fleshed out even more while honoring the canon lore. Cool I'll do some research and write up the start of a new thread this weekend.

devinpatterson
Kinda slammed, havn't had a chance to do any research for the subject, but that shouldn't stop us from brainstorming, lets start throwing some ideas around

devinpatterson
Alright so what area do you want start with? Gear ? NPCs ? Companions ? Missions ? I am partial to faction quests because that's one of the best ways to become familiar with the real inner workings of an organization. I believe the FoA have a wider range than most major factions (which are much more myopic and more closely focused on their own welfare) which results in a more interesting variety of quests. A couple of related points. The legion is probably the greatest humanitarian disaster in this region (in recent times). I think this should be a reoccurring theme of refugees, fleeing their onslaught. And with teh legion's concept of total war, it wouldn't be surprising to see disease and pestilence in areas where infrastructure (even wasteland infrastructure) was destroyed, as well as famine etc. I believe this also has special significance for the FoA because of Caesar's origin story and previous affiliation. So I could see legion related challenges being a reoccurring theme. The second reoccurring theme should probably focus on the NCR and the Office of Science and Industry. The FoA cooperated and grew with the NCR, but began to split as the NCR became more imperialistic in it's expansion. One branch of the followers broke off to form a rival faction, the Office of Science and Industry, aligned with the NCR. But the FoA could be called on to help in a multitude of ways. At times they will be responding to immediate threats. For exmaple, a brahmin baron may have mad brahmin disease in his/her herd, and has sold infected meat. Other times they will be building bridges between factions and conflicts, building infrastructure etc. They are the do-gooders of the wastes, and I think that implies an infinite number of missions (reflecting how badly a hero is needed in a post apocalyptic world). I would however recommend missions that are much more problems solving related as opposed to combat. And of course we have the various threads on altruism closer to home. It's such a large expansive subject, with so much potential, it can be hard to know where to start. But a foundation should probably be laid down for the players main contacts (read that as quest givers) in the organization. This will be the main source of the factions info, flowing to the player as well. I think Julie Farkas could be a good potential candidate. devinpatterson
YES Bullets for Books - ??? maybe FoA School house They are BIG TIME into books. Their head quarters (according to teh wiki) is the LA library (I think it was LA). I see a lot of missions for the FoA to gather knowledge from ancient locations that were eschewed as worthless to other prospectors but incredibly valuable for the followers. The wiki also really hammers on the fact that the followers are pretty advanced and the only reason they are so (comparatively) primitive for the Mojave chapter is massive distribution problems. Another aspect the player could help with and really multiply the followers influence in the area.
MarchUntoTorment
Am I the only one here who sees some major potential for factional conflict between the Brotherhood and the Followers over their searches for tech - and maybe the possibility for alliance? I think it's made clear at some point (can't remember where) that security is one of the major problems the Followers have. Since they're largely pacifistic, they often get trodden on by other groups, and for that reason, are often unable to work in the areas that need them most. So perhaps an alliance with the Brotherhood could prove lucrative? I don't know if this should go in this thread or the Dawn of Steel thread or here, but I think that it's a point worth discussing. dark9834
The misconception is that by virtue of being pacifists that the FoA aren't armed and can't defened themselves, true they do not go looking for conclict but I don't think they would be a push over at mass. Sadly the mojave branch seems to be heavily under supported to the point of having to hire outside protection for their members. As for their conficts with the BoS, the tech that the FoA is after is of little or no vaule to the BoS. The BoS wants weapons, they want armor where the FoA want history, medicine and things that will help stabilize the wasteland. I don't see much of a problem unless the FoA start stepping on the BoS's toes such as sending scavengers in to a (unknown to the FoA) occupied BoS bunker looking for tech. I also think that something that we all forget is that the FoA are anarchist, they act in a way as to defy controlled system such as the NCR or BoS opting instead to have no defined hierarchy and lead from a place of natural selection. Julie Farkas wasn't elected to lead, the Mojave FoA chose to follower her. Think of the Chaotic Good alignment, they act unburdened by the laws and values established by any other system outside of their own and that trickles down to a person by person level. Each FoA member doing whatever is in there power to up hold the ideals of what they think they FoA is. No one has ever been kicked out of the Followers and they except all comers not mater their history. EDIT:In addition we have canon proof that the FoA aren't and campfire songs and stimpaks. They have employed spies http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Laura_(Fallout) to infiltrate groups that they see as threats and have even gone into full on life and death combat for the sake of the wasteland. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Follower_invader The FoA maybe kind and care and vaule all life but by no means are they meek, they are fighting for change. Every smile, every full stomach, every open mind and touched heart is an act of rebellion against "the dog eat dog" sickness that has waste over the waste since the great war. In the words of the FoA founder Nicole "We want to bring peace back to this wasteland. The world tends toward destruction, so we try to make a difference."
