master23roks
hey guys quite new here but i've been having this problem recently where whatever type of save i do (i.e quicksave, save through menu) it takes approximately at least 20 secs to be able to save. as when i click on f5 the game would just stop for about 20 secs> after which the save successful statement appears. It does save, however im just bothered as to why now it takes this much time to do so so im wondering if anyone has ever experienced this and could be of help? thanks! WastelandAssassin
how large are your save files??also, are you using mods??because this is usually due to bloated save files, which can be fixed with Wrye Bash
master23roks
yup i am using mods. just checked my oblivion folder in My Games and it totaled about 400mb... not sure why because i only have about 5 saves currently lol. how would i solve these bloated saves with wyre bash? WastelandAssassin
well, i can't exactly recall, but i think that there is an option there about bloated savesjust look through the manual, that should give you an answer and do check how much your last save weights (not your whole folder, just your last save)if it is rather large (more than 5 or 6 MBs) then it is indeed very large, and is probably so due to bloated saves sorry i can't explain how to do it exactly, but i have never done it

master23roks
just tried the remove bloat option in wrye bash but saving time is still the same. got any more ideas on how this could be solved? thanks!
WastelandAssassin
quite frankly, i had the same problem, and never got to fixing iti just gave up on the game a short time after, due to having more games to playso i really have no idea but you could search this site or Google for threads about the same problemmaybe you will find an existing answer
master23roks
the only way the saving worked normally again was to revert to my backup saves which means hours of gameplay lost lol. thanks though! update:hmm, i was able to successfully get a save just 30 mins (gameplay hours allotted was about 103hrs) before the saving time acted strangely (the no. of gameplay hours was approximately 103 hrs and 30 mins when i noticed this problem occurring) and it seems relatively better (about 5-8 secs to save) however as i go through the game once more from that point on it seems to go between 7-10 secs before saving. looking at this i am just wondering as to how or why this is being caused. as i play on and keep testing the save time, the time it takes to save seems to increase at some points up to 15-20 secs and at other times going on normally up to 6 secs minimum. may this be caused by the fact that i have saved about 3400+ times in the game (rotating 5 saves)? does anyone have any idea as to what is causing this or even how to solve this? thanks all! Smooth613
Look at your OBSE log, or post it here, for any mention of mods creating "Excessive Strings". If so then those mods are causing save game bloat, which will increase the save times and can eventually corrupt the saves. Rotating amongst five saves may or may not be an issue. I always make new saves, it' just good practice. Edited November 27, 2010 by Smooth613
