Vista & Mods

So I have windows vista and I'm trying to install mods. I googled and looked at every site explaining how to install them and it still won't work. First of all I uninstalled and installed Oblivion (the game of the year edition if that helps) and put it into Computer> OS ©>Bethesda etc.>Data....It said on another website to do that for vista because of some security thing it has on the program files so it said to put it right in the C drive. So that's what I've done I also have the OBMM but that really doesn't do anything I still have to extract from winrar into the oblivion data folder so I don't see how OBMM does anything? But anyways when I launch the game and look under the data files on the launcher there's nothing there even when I extract the mods into the data folder. So please help if you can and let me know if I'm doing something wrong. Thanks!

P.S. I'm not real cpu smart lol so I'm sure maybe I did something wrong

This is where I found the info but it doesn't make any sense with the OBMM :( http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Oblivion_Mods_FAQ#OBMM

first of all, in order to install with OBMM, you need to make OMODs of the mods that you want

at the bottom of OBMM, click Create, then Add Archive

then choose the rar or zip file, and select it

you will see all the plugins it has (esm and esp files) in the box of that page

then just fill in all the details you want, and click Create omod

then you just need to activate the OMOD (just choose it in the main OBMM page, and click Activate)

you should see all the plugins you have, in the left side of the OBMM screen

this is your load order

and you need to activate Oblivion from the OBMM screen (click Launch Oblivion)

also, make sure you have OBSE, as it is needed in many cases

and if the mods that you have installed don't show up, then maybe you didn't install them correctly

you need to make sure that all the plugins are in your Date folder, and all the sub-folders are in the right places (meaning that the meshes go into the meshes folder and such)

but i would recommend that you uninstall the game, then remove all the extra contents (the mods that you have installed) then reinstall the game, patch it up, install OBMM, and install all the mods as OMODs

it is much better, and easier to handle them all

hope this helps :)

After you extract those files, are you sure they arent being extracted into a subfolder? Like whatever.rar > whatever folder.

Also check what kinds of files are in the rar/zip. Theres a kind that installs with obmm.

Mmmm....why can't mods just be download double click and it's in the game? This is all very complicated to me I don't really understand this type of stuff I'm sure I'll be back after I figure this out lol Thanks! Is this the only way to get mods into the game by this OBMM? Or is there a waaaay easier way to do it?

I also tried this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gEdFpwJqXE but when I go to the oblivion launcher and go to the data files there's nothing there...?

I have a tutorial - that includes a simple mod to download, unzip and install if you want to try it.

http://thestormravenlibrary.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=113&p=197#p197

Basic procedure

1. Download mod to your computer

2. Extract (unzip) mod directly into the Oblivion\data folder

3. Start game, look in data. select mod by clicking on the box beside it.

This is the simplest way for a simple mod that has nothing except an esp file. when you get into mesh, texture and other files it can get more difficult. Learn how to install a simple one first. Then tackle the more difficult mods.

Let me know if you have problems with this procedure.

Ok so I got to step 4 and I checked the data files on the launcher and it WAS there so I checked it then hit play. Now it's crashing when it tries to load the game  Well I deleted the dagger file out of the oblivion file and tried it again but it still crashed so I guess I have to reinstall oblivion :pinch: Edited by andinic28
