Wireless Mouse and Keyboard problem

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Sometime while I'm playing Oblivion, around say... 5-10 minutes of gameplay, the mouse and keyboard will suddenly lock up. I can't move my character, look around, open a menu, anything. I have to put the computer to sleep, wake it up and end Oblivion.exe just to regain control.

It never used to do this when I had a wired Mouse and Keyboard. I cannot have a wired one anymore, as I have moved my computer into my bedroom from my office, and it is on the other side of the room, and I sit on my bed to play (No desk)

Can anybody please provide me with a solution? I really want to play again. :(

Thanks,

LordEsther.

Get a better wireless keyboard and mouse? Or move closer to the PC. You know the problem is hardware related since it works just fine with a hard-wired keyboard+mouse. I personally use a wireless mouse with Oblivion and have no issues. Although my receiver is only about 12-14 inches from my mouse.

It is fine with everything else, however. So I don't think it's hardware related. Also, when I press Ctrl Alt Del, and then go to O, and end it, it's fine. The whole game crashes for some reason. It doesn't CTD or anything, but just freezes the place I was

For example, I press autorun. It freezes, I'm autorunning forever, cannot move otherwise.

I would have voted for a hardware problem myself... still might. :) Your other possibility is a device driver problem. Do you have the latest drivers loaded for your wireless keyboard and mouse?

You can use dxdiag to determine the date and version of your drivers.

You can try windows device manager. Find your keyboard & mouse and tell windows to look for updates.

You might also try a USB extender cable and jack and see if moving the receiver closer to your bed helps.

This may also be a codec issue:

This doesn't sound like a mod problem. More like a signal strength problem. If your Keyboard or mouse looses the signal for a few seconds it can easily lock up the game. Try Quaxalot's suggestion of getting a USB extender cable to get the receiver closer to where the mouse & keyboard are.The range on wireless KB & mouse is actually very short. I cannot move mine (mouse only) more than about 6 feet without dropouts. They are cheap.
