Molerat goodness.

How about a half feral ghoulified Molerat companion that isn't feral enough to be a pet or companion but feral enough to be a killer attack Molerat.?

There was something special about mole rats (probably should have googled before posting). I heard a little segment on NPR, and if I remember right it was interesting in reference to cancer (like the little dudes just don't get it) and their longevity. I wonder if that could factor in to ghoulification. I'll have to look them up.

I'll try and put together at least one model this evening.

Tried to do the dufflebag molerat to start with, and the exe (library, or what have you) of my copy of blender has become corrupt or something. The bone weight script would complete in a tiny fraction of a second and when you check it out in weight paint mode there's nada, nothing, zip. Even when I'd paint the dufflebags by hand, parenting the skeleton wouldn't result in any vertex groups. Between this and the last request or two (where parts of a mesh were staying behind when armor was unequipped), my working version of blender is absolutely craptastic.

It's not a big deal since I use a portable version anyway, but it means I won't have time to finish setting it up again and a make a model before I head to work. Maybe tuesday evening I can put one together.

OK new copy of blender. Had a heck of a time with teh dufflebags though. I guess because they are so big and extend so far past the skeleton. In the end had to rig them to an envelope, and do some work arounds. Here is a little vid of the molerat going through it's animations;

I guess next will be the motorhead or tribal.

That Molerat with duffle bags looks pretty sweet. I was thinking about what you said about how Molerats might not be able to become ghouls because of their cellular immunities to various cancers but then I remembered Harold from Fallout: 2 and Fallout: 3 and he was dipped in the vats of F.E.V. and became a ghoul. It's possible that Molerats can become ghouls through F.E.V. . . . maybe.

I don't want to give the wrong impression, I was commenting on their unusual physiology in general, but not to contradict teh ghoulification suggestion you made. Ghoulification may be a great candidate to express that weirdness that is the molerat. Longevity and to a lesser degree cancer resistance (if you portray it as a variant or result of rad resistance) are traits that support your ghoulification suggestion. As does their ability to reduce metabolic requirements and being a mammal that has a body tempeture that matches their enviornment (poked around a bit on wikipedia).

FEV does have that sort of wildcard feature, where nothing is off the table. FEV can increase physical attributes at the cost of mental attributes (SMs, east coast), or do the opposite (the master had massive mental abilities, psi etc). It produces sterility in virtually all species, but not deathclaws. Then you can throw the different varieties (most post war research) into the mix and just about anything is possible in an organism. I guess nothing about it would really surprise me, it's kind of a biological singularity where just about all the rules break down.

So I don't see why not.

love the idea of cyber molerats

Yeah, cyber molerats will be intersting. I think I need a mad scientist back story though. Or perhaps snuffles suffers a traumatic brain injury and doc Henry has to apply his knowledge of cyberdogs (at the couriers request) to teh first cyberMolerat.

DEVIN i just had an idea

imagine the K-9000 Cyberdog Gun but with the brain of a molerat!?

But how would we make it different? I mean I could make the brain smaller/larger (probably smaller, I'm guessing they aren't as smart as dogs, but I could be wrong, have to check teh geck), different color etc, but it wouldn't really change much of anything with the K-9000. I mean you could possibly have a special effect I suppose related to the brain swap, but I'm not really sure what it is. I'd say no penalty for darkness (since their essentially blind anyway) but light conditions don't really figure in to hit chances much (at least that I'm aware of).

so would you see it just as a cosmetic difference, or did you have other implications for a brain swap. And what about other brains. Would the brain of a high perception creature that inserted into the gun provide a per bonus. Would a higher agility brain provide a higher rate of fire? Questions and possibilities.
