Linden, Eruanion, and Alenee

June 05, 1048 0839

Eruanion's sword pierces through the forming skin, then strikes hard bone as it hits the vertebrae. As Linden pushes the creature, the sword slips down a tiny bit and passes through the space between them. Linden sees the point of the sword erupt from the thing's neck. "I will rule again!" the thing says in a hoarse whisper. "It isssss my dessssstiny! I will rule again." The thing continues, growing slowly quieter as it goes along, the flesh practically melting off of the structure of the bones. "I will rule again. I will rule again. I will rule again. I... will........." Finally, the light behind the eyes fades to darkness, and the once fallen King becomes the twice fallen, and falls back into its coffin in pure skeletal form. Linden collapses, as if exhausted from extreme exertion, and the mace falls with a thud on the stone floor.

As the last of the flesh melts off the skeleton, there is a loud "click" from in the hallway, soon followed by a second click and a loud grating sound.

After a couple minutes of searching, Helstar finds the paper right where he left it, in his pocket.

Erunánion quickly withdraws the sword, and whirls around to look at the entrance to the corridor. He breathes a deep sigh of relief, and looks around at his two companions. "Are you both okay?"

The paper begins to brown unevenly as the heat burns the lemon juice based ink more quickly than the paper. At first, the symbols appear to be nonsense, but as the intervening spaces are filled with the darkened lettering, it appears to be a note, in the same handwriting that was on the maps.

It now seems apparent that we will not meet our deadline for the construction of the main building. How sad!! The more important goal is now clearly in sight. If only I can persuade that imbecile Beadle to get off of the hills, we can complete our ultimate task. It should be easier now that I know that he didn’t find the tomb. I have sent Felecor to finish the job. He’s my best, he’ll do it, or die trying. There are a couple of more applicants to try to find out what’s going on. I’m sure they’ll have as little success as everyone else who’s come. My little trick with the tools has sent everyone who's applied so far running off the hill in terror - these should be no different. I will keep you apprised.
