Kethruch
june 05, 1048 1120 "Right over here, I'll get you the information that you need." Eriollis says after making one more gesture with his hands to try to get Melisande interested in the ring and earrings. He walks over to a desk, behind which are several piles of books bound by leather ties, each about six inches thick. "Jewelry, puchased and sold recently." He says absentmindedly as he pulls out one of the journals. "Let's see, a ring." He flips though several pages. "Ah, yes, here it is. A silver ring with a diamond, fairly low quality, though still very nice, with two amethysts set one on each side. Local work, high grade silver. Purchased from the Temple of Corithalion and sold to someone with the initials BR." He pauses for a second. "BR? GERIAL!!!" He cries out. "How many times have I told you we only put full names in the ledgers!" There is a shuffling at the back of the store, followed by a door opening. A small, delicate looking man with a pointy nose and chin enters the room somewhat sheepishly. "Yes, Eriollis?" He says meekly. "I am sorry, but I had to fight with the customer jsut to get that much out of him. Seems he didn't want to be well known, and, well, the price he paid for the ring I thought might grant him some small favor." Eriollis looks at the man, his eyes bulging and the veins on his temples pulsating. "In the future," he finally says, as he calms himself after looking at the customers. "Please allow me to be the one to make those kinds of decisions. Thank you, you may return to what you were doing." As the man turns around, Eriollis calls after him. "How is the research into the origin of those pieces coming?" "Well, now. I'm sorry if I can't be any more use to you on that subject. As to your request, milady, how about the entirety of what you ask for the sum on everything at an even 20 silver. Surely that is a bargain, but, for one as enchanting as yourself, and as incentive for you to come back and pick up the baubles you REALLY want, I am willing to do this for you." He turns to Linden. "Good Sir, I would be more than happy to oblige. Our expert is currently walking back to his study, if you would be so good as to follow, him, I am sure that he will be more than happy to help. ISN'T THAT RIGHT, GERIAL?" he calls rather pointedly after him. OOC - a heater is called a heater because it is shaped like the bottom part of an iron - It is the shield form that you often see in the movies and will see with coats of arms on it. (If you know what a coat of arms looks like - imagine that as a shield, and you have a 'heater')
Emry
Linden follows Gerial back to his study, holding the pieces she wants to show him in her hands. Once they get settled back there, she looks him in the eye and smiles. "Friend, before we begin, I'd like to settle the price of the appraisal. I want to be sure that I can afford your services. " She lays the stone and the jar on the table and holds the book in her hand. "These are the items I'd like appraised. When we are finished with that, I may have other business with you." Malchik
Tiemmo feels that some of the goods on display would fit easily into his pocket but determines to control himself for once. He listlessly follows the others wondering whether he will ever get revenge upon the beast that killed a woman who was kind to him. The others seem to have forgotten all about it. It was easier living in the wilderness. True he had often gone hungry but he did not have to face such blatant profiteering and greed. Even the temples were doing it. The 'prophet' motive no doubt! He wanders over to Krikox and says. "I don't like coincidences. I think BR is Bengt Reevelord. But how are we expected to go after whatever he really is?" Kethruch
June 05, 1048 1121 The back room is absolutely full of open boxes, crates, and shelving, all packed to the brim. In the crates and covering half the floor is straw, while armor, weapons, statues, papers, books, jewelry, pottery and just about everything else you can imagine is, well, just everywhere. Half-buried in the straw in one of the cases there is a head in a likeness that Linden finds disturbingly familiar. Is seems to be made of some kind of wood, though it is inlaid with gold, silver, and several sparkly gems. Gerial turns to Linden and smiles. "The price is dependent on what you've got. If it's something that I can tell what it is without a history in a glance, like an item created here in Toof within the last ten years, it won't be expensive. However, if you're claiming to have a saddle worn by the horse of a Jocethrian Mittelman at a particular battle some five hundred years ago, well, then I'd have to research the item thoroughly before giving my opinion." He pauses and smiles. "Actually, I'm supposed to charge at flat minimum fee for any of this, but I can see you're trying to get something done that you might not be able to afford. If I take a liking to a piece, I might dig in and do the research gratis. You see," he says, a look of joy on his face. "I love my work. Eriollis just doesn't understand that." He looks down at the items, then back to Linden. "Well, why don't you show me the rest. The best way to know what I'm dealing with is to see everything in the context it has been in. I can see you're holding back, but if you really want to know what these things are, I need to know everything - including the story of how you came by them and what history you know of them. I'll tell you what - show me the rest and tell me the story and I'll tell you which items you want to have appraised and which ones you don't." Krixox turns to Tiemmo. "I feel the same way, though I think there are things bigger than just us at work here. If there's anything the girl in the fire told me, it's that there WILL be a time where I can wreak vengeance on the one who killed Portia. I knew her but a short time, but, as you, liked her a lot. She had a kind of naive innocence about her you don't find often. I think we should bide our time, and he will find us. After all, it was us who foiled whatever master plan he had." Eriollis looks at the rest of the party. "So," he says. "Is there anything else I can do for anyone?
Malchik
Tiemmo remembers the amulet they picked from the would-be assassins when he first joined the party. They have been given some information about it but perhaps misinformtion. He cannot remember who has it but asks Portia.
Kethruch
My bad - It was of course, Melisande who died, not Portia. Please forgive the rantings of an insane madman who obviously took me over and posted the wrong name. I will now banish him to the great Al-Miraj desert (half the world away from where you are...) Melisande
Portia looks at herself up and down to make sure she was still there. A sigh of relief comes over her as the moment where she felt dead passes and she moves on to the matter at hand. Portia looks at the items, and then back at Eriollis. (OOC - I think you said something about you giving us the bartered to price, if so, please ignore the next little bit - I'll edit it out if so). She feels in her pocket at the meager amount of coins in her purse. It is barely enough to cover the items, but perhaps she can do better. "I have but 18 in my purse." She explains softly. "Please, I will give you them all for the merchandise, alnog with my promise to return for the ring and earrings. The armor looks about my size, but I am sure that I will have to do some altering on it, that alone will take me a great deal of time that is worth some reduction, is it not?" Kethruch
June 05. 1048 1122 The price given was the bartered to price - it is below market for all that you asked for (though perhaps a little higher than what a professional shopper would get). It is a very good price. "I am sorry milady, but that's the best I can do." Eriollis says with a grin. "As far as your coming back for the other items, your presence would do my shop proud." Krixox turns to Tiemmo. "I think I have that.." And begins rummaging through a small bag. "Here it is." She takes it out and presents it to Tiemmo. "Are you thinking of having it appraised? If so, get back there so taht maybe they'll cut us a good deal on all of the stuff."
Malchik
Tiemmo takes it across to Eriollis. "This is an item we came by. Can you tell me anything about it? Also, is it worth anything?"
Kethruch
June 05, 1048 1123 "Please take that back to Gerial, he's the expert in such matters." Eriollis says, showing Tiemmo a rack full of trinkets as he does so. "Perhaps something for the missus, milord? Surely someone as worldly and well-spoken has been spoken for? The only other possibility is that there is someone whom you are trying to woo? Either way, one of these will indeed make a huge difference." Krixox laughs and turns back toward the weapons.
