Yes but the problem with the plugins is that you need the patch and guess what! the patch does'nt work on my PC (i am runnin the no DVD because i brke my disk lol.

You should've kept the original oblivion.exe. You could've simply switched them around for the patch, and switch them back after patching.

They've probably made more money from people buying the plugins than they've made from actual sales of the game.

How is this possible, if the total combined cost of all plugins is less than the game. If everyone bought all the plugins, there would still be less moeny than from sales.

It is possible because of the production costs. It takes much more money for Oblivion to make even more voice-acting than is usually required for a plug-in, more graphics designing, marketing for the new expansion product, and then making the expansion product, boxing it, shipping it everywhere, etc.

With a plug-in, they get the voice-acting, make the code, and then just put it on the web. It doesn't take as much time or nearly as much money to make a plug-in, so that is why the plug-ins could net Bethesda more of a profit.

You forgot all the advertizing and other promotional stuff they did for Oblivion. Then you have to figure that while an expansion would only be viable for PC, all these plugins can work nicely with the several thousand Xbox players, as well as the PC.

Well, I did mention advertising, when I said "marketing for the new expansion product." It is true, though, that I totally forgot about having to do the code for the xbox as well.

Unless I'm mistaken, they can't do the expansion for the xbox since there isn't any capacity within the system to allow one full game to be loaded from a dvd, then using a different dvd for additional information. Even something where xbox owners would have to go changing dvds every time they moved from one area to another probably wouldn't work due to player inconvienance, and requiring the first game to be on hand (unheard of for consoles). This means that anything substantial would have to be a standalone product, or not support xbox at all. Whereas plugins work for both without many changes, and are small enough to be saved locally.

MMM I MAAY HAVE KEPT IT I WILL RUN THE SEARCH NOW ANYWAYY. i probally havn't (that is not the sort of thing i do i am not orginised enough. well anyway they won't need an expansion for x-box 360 when the PS3 comes out. beecause they will probally add teh whole game to that so may make a re-realease. they could try making mods that let you play an evil questline that would rule

WOW i did make a back up. thats a first for me.

They'll run into exactly the same problem with PS3. The oblivion game disk is filled completely, Bethsoft even had to either leave voices and other things unfinished, or partially removed just to make the game fit on a single dvd. Unless the PS3 can read both sides of the same disk simultaniously, or comes with 2 drives, it will have the same problem as the 360. At most, you might find the PS3 version cleaned up a bit more, with fewer/different bugs. Anything else just wouldn't be viable from any perspective.

2 things.

1) http://www.gamespot.com/news/6157428.html

Expansion news was leaked some time ago.

2) They won't run into any storage problem with the PS3. Even with the X360 version, they didn't have to chop it down like they did. You forget that DVDs hold 9GB, while a full install of Oblivion takes up less than 5GB. No PS3 games will be on DVD, all on BluRay, which holds 25GB+, which means they could easily hold everything and not be run short. BethSoft cut down on voice actors and chopped out a lot of things, to be cheap.

They'd be able to put Oblivion plus the expansion, on a single disc. Most of the voices would be re-used(and voices take up half the data space as it is), textures are re-used(they can touch them up, make them look much better, fix up the existing texture and graphic issues), and they'd have all the existing items and quests. From there, they just have to add in a second main quest, or could even just make it take place in another land. Even then, a lot of the voices would be reused, most of the textures would be recycled endlessly, and the quest data really doesn't take up a lot of space by comparison. They could double the amount of voice in the game, and it still wouldn't eat up all the disc space of a DVD9(dual-layer DVD, standard for movies). At the least, it'd be nice if they gave all the quest-related characters their own voices. :/

thats what i was gonna say. but you said it better than me. anyway it is posible to make expansions on consoles. although i think it has oinly be done once. on the early GTAs the PS1 versions (i now agerees ago) the london one was an expansion of GTA 1 all you had to do was put the london disk in and when the game told you to put the origonal GTA 1 disk in so it is possible. oh and i only know this cause my mate lent me the disk aggeeess ago when my PS1 still worked.
