Unable to drink from water sources

I have a bug where if I attempt to drink from a sink, toilet, lake or any other water source, my character's movement will freeze forever and I have to load from my last save. By extension, similar problems happen with sitting on barstools or attempting to eat or gather meat from corpses. Where animation should be (sipping water, sitting down, going Hannibal) instead my character stands there while the rest of the game world continues. Pretty much prevented me from playing hardcore mode without cheating or blowing all of my dirty water and desert plants.

I inadvertently solved this problem by trying to fix the audio lagging bug.

The "Silent Hill 5" solution is the one that worked for me.
