Mod cleanup

First off let say hello to everyone.

Second off I apologize for in-proper format.

Now I'm new to modding and I'm needing a little help.

Problem: How to cleanup mods I have created with CS that I don't want?

I have the TES IV: Oblivion (Goty)

After going through the newbie guide for the CS I come to find that there are couple mods that I want gone. So how do I go through and remove them. They are incomplete and not needed.

Now these mods don't show up in the Data folder and they have no .esp files there. They don't show up in the Obmm either.

They show up when you first start the game and you go into Data files, and they are there. They are currently unchecked so they are not used in the game.

How do I remove these mods that I used for learning that I don't want to use anymore in the game?

They're in your /Data subdirectory--they have to be, if you see them when you start the game. Depending upon the tools you use, they could be relabeled with new file suffixes. Try looking for ESP.BACKUP and especially ESP.GHOST. If you've got Wrye Bash running, with auto-ghost enabled, those ESP files of yours might have been relabeled in this fashion.

Let me add that I'm running Windows 7 (64bit). and looking in the folder there are no files as such. The CS see's them and so does Oblivion.

I have gone through and even looked for hidden files and no such luck.

Could this be something how Windows 7 works?

I'll keep trying to figure this out and thanks so far.

Virtual Store – Win 7 & Vista

Windows is basically ghosting your files since you installed to Program Files. UAC doesn't like it when files are altered in anyway and sees this as a security threat. This is why you should always install Oblivion outside of Program Files to a directory such as <drive letter>:\Games\Oblivion.

Windows is storing the files in the VirtualStore, located at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\VirtualStore.

Thank you so much Smooth613,

Not only did I find those files, but I have also found my missing screen shots I've been looking for. :D

I will go through and reinstall the game into a directory that has been suggested. It will also allow me to clean up the system a little and do a fresh install after I have cleaned things up.

Again Thanks so much to everyone here for the help with this.
