MetallicAGuy
A while back I picked up my oblivion game again, and I noticed what must be a bug in my encumbrance. Whenever I cast a feather spell or equip an item with a feather enchant, my encumbrance does not rise by a set amount as it should (i.e; 50). Instead, my encumbrance is only increased by the same amount as the total weight that I am carrying. For instance, my total encumbrance was 31/500; I was carrying a weight of 31 out of 500 possible. When I equipped the item with a Feather effect of 50, my encumbrance only increased by 31. I deactivated EVERY mod I was running to see if a mod was causing the problem, but I kept getting the same result. I have no idea how to go into the games data to try to figure out what the problem is, so anyone with some modding or game data savvy that can help me would be greatly appreciated. PacificMorrowind
AFAIK that is a bug with the way the feather spell is scripted (as in a vanilla game bug not a damaged save game or bad mod)... it is fixable with an OBSE script (in an ugly hackish sort a way) and certainly fixible with an OBME mod.Pacific Morrowind
MetallicAGuy
Could you please clarify? How exactly do I use an OBSE script to fix the error, and what is an OBME mod, and how could it be used to fix it? theNiceOne
Your problem is neither mod nor OBSE related, but due to a bug in vanilla Oblivion's Encumbrance display. The display (when looking at your inventory) makes it look like a feather spell increases your Encumbrance limit. This is not true, what a feather spell really does, is to reduce the weight of the items you currently carry. And if your total carriage weights 31, their weight cannot be reduced below zero, so the effective max for feather is then 31. In this case, the display makes it look like your encumbrance limit was increased by 31, but the reality is that your carried weight was reduced to 0. With this in mind, it makes sense that a feather 50 spell only reduces 31 weight. If you want to see the correct encumbrance/encumbrance limit of your character, consider installing my mod HUD Status Bars. It will by default give you a status bar above the health bar, that displays the correct encumbrance, also as text. Smooth613
I'll chime in and say I also suggest you get TNO's HUD Status Bar mod, along with all his other work. It's all really top notch and he constantly updates them. Lack of support is not an issue either. Good stuff TNO, keep it up. We appreciate all you do.
