I need help!

Ok, so as you can probably tell by the title I need some help. I am trying to download mods for Oblivion, just the orginal game. I have no expansions for it, just the orginal the one that says "winner, Game of the Year" at the lower right hand corner. I am trying to figure out how to download mods, and beable to use them. The problem I am having is, its confusing lol. I read on one that I need the Official patch for the game, which I have no clue how to get. I have also tried downloading mods anyways in a attempt to try and figure it out on my own, but to no avail. When I think I know whats going on and I want to try to download something I see people commenting saying things like "you need the cm mod to run this" or something along those lines. I dont expect someone to break down everything for me, but if you could set me in the right direction I would be much obliged! I have even tried going to youtube and seeing if there are tutorials on there, which I have tried following a few of them and got no where. I dont know what the deal is. If it helps, I am using windows 7, someone please save me! Please!

As I meantioned in Chat use this link to obtain the patch you need

http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm

Once you have this and have installed it you then look at the mods you want. To download these click on the files section of the page and then click the required files these will once again begin downloading upon clicking

They need to be unpacked using winrar or similar. I would suggest saving them to a Folder dedicated to Oblivion mods eg Oblivion Downloads so you can find them with ease

Once unpacked, the files would need to go into the Data Folder of your game. I would suggest downloading and installing Mod Manger from here http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32277 and installing it to the Oblivion folder. Click on the launcher and away you go This will assist you in sorting your mods.

I would also suggest you download Wrye Bash for as this is an invaluable tool as well as BOSS which will diagnose conflicts and assist with load orders

Should you require any further help, either give us a shout in Chat or contact us here. Hope this helps

First, The mods only work on PC no xbox or PS3 versions. And then some versions have problems with some mods, such as the D2D version. Steam version works fine, but may need a steam version of OBSE (included in the OBSE downloads)

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end; then stop. ~Lewis Carrol, Alice in Wonderland

In this case, the beginning is where you install the game. The best place is NOT the default location (unless you have Win XP) as that allows Vista and Win7 UAC to block mods and other programs.

Recommended: C:\Games\Oblivion

If you need it, Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexus

http://www.tesnexus....icle.php?id=240

It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice.

Now be sure you have the latest patch as it is needed for many mods

Look in the lower left corner when you start the game for your version. The latest patch is v1.2.0146

Go here for patches: http://www.elderscro...tes_patches.htm

Note: The patch is included on the Game of the Year version, as part of the Shivering Isles installation.

Next, OBSE is required for many mods also, Get the latest version here: http://obse.silverlock.org/

And the utility programs, get the latest versions.

BOSS: http://tesnexus.com/...le.php?id=20516

OBMM: http://tesnexus.com/...ile.php?id=2097

Wrye Bash: http://tesnexus.com/...le.php?id=22368

Don't make the noob mistake of installing a mass of mods all at once and expecting them, to just work. The time you think you save will be more than lost in troubleshooting.

Install a few at a time and test - make sure they are working before adding more to the list.

And, a troubleshooting tool for when you have a wacky problem and need to make sure it really is a mod causing it: Bben's Oblivion Revert to Vanilla game

And of course, If you have a pirated version, It's a good probability that is your problem.
