Marksman Carbine

What type of real world weapon is the Marksman Carbine modeled after?

Shape-wise, the CAR-15 - stat-wise, I don't think it's very realistic at all, at least not compared to the Service Rifle (M16).

 

edit: maybe the M4 carbine and not the CAR-15.

It appears to be some kind of AR-15 (semi-automatic, many owned by civilians in the US). The AR-15 is pretty much a semi-auto M16 variant, from the Armalite family.

 

This particular model has some nifty stuff, like an adjustable butt pad/cheek weld, and a rail system on the hand guard for mounting accessories.

It also has what looks like an ACOG scope.

 

As pjz said, stat wise, it should be more in line with the Service Rifle, as far as DMG is concerned (though 4 points isn't too huge), but of course this is a video game and they often have differences where in real life there would be none (or very little).

 

This particular model looks like it would probably be a high value AR-15, with all the goodies.

I think you are right. The Carbine probably has a 14.5" barrel, versus what is probably the standard 20" for the Service Rifle.

 

Perhaps they could have made it a Marksman Rifle instead of Carbine, with a 24" HBAR or something. Full length stock and all the goodies. :biggrin:

Thank you for the replies! I was only looking for info on the shape and graphic, but the conversation on stats is also very useful! I asked the question because I am working on a highly extensive complete overhaul mod to include renaming all weapons with pseudo-realistic brand and model namesinstead of the generic "Service Rifle" names that come with the game out of the box. Part of that mod includes changing virtually every stat in the game, including weapon damage and weapon value. I will do my best to keep the stats as close to "real" as I can without compromising game balance and fun factor. Thanks again!

Very likely the names were chosen due to trademark concerns, I tend to doubt it was just poor research.

Oh, I agree with you 100%. I am sure Obsidian would have included more specific naming conventions unless there had been a good legal/business reason not to. The weapon names is just a tiny part of my overall mod.

closest to the Colt Model 933 with SIRS rails, an ACOG scope and a PRS stock..

tho due to the blandness and incorrect features (compared to any real ar-15/m16 model) in game it could really be any model modified or none of them

 

for instance the Service Rifle and Marksman carbine lack the charging handle on the rear which is present in pretty much all ar-15/m16 family models. Instead they put it on the bolt on the right side where the cases eject
