A little helping start.....

Hey guys, quick run down.

I've decided (because no matter what 'fixes' I apply, Fallout 3 crashes) that I'd finally learn about FO3edits complex conflict resolving process.

Now I've added all the mods I want to use (which really aren't many), I've actiavted A.I.I. ran it through BOSS and created a merged patch.

Now I've applied the filters and am ready to analyse the problems.

I've read and am flicking back and fourth through Miaxs FO3edit guide

I was just wondering if someone could help me to make sure I start off on the right foot with the conflict shown below

So here is the very first conflict in my list. Now correct me if I'm wrong but if I understand Miaxs guide correctly, Anchorage.esm andf BrokenSteel.esm are in conflict and FOOK2 [DIK]... is the conflict winner.

Now, what I'd like to know is... is this conflict likely to crash the game? and how can you tell if it will or won't cause a potential crash?

Also, if it will, Am I to understand that I should drag and drop the 100.000000 value (from the conflict winner) to both the value cells of Anchorage and BrokenSteel?

Obviously I'm not going to be on here asking about every little conflict, it's just, Miaxs guide is great but it doesn't really break things down very well and explain things for complete beginners. I'm still confused as to what I should try to fix and what to ignore, what to copy into a manual plugin and what conflicts just need their values changed to the values of conflict winners.

Am I making any sense?

Anyway, if there's anyone here experience with FO3edit your guidance and tips would be REALLY appreciated.

Thank you :)

The only time you should change a value is if the conflict winner IS NOT the value you want. In that case you would drag the value you want to either overwrite the conflict winner's value or as an overwrite in your merged patch (or another manually created patch).

I'm not a FOOK2 user so I can't comment on whether that should be the conflict winner or not, however, I would guess that it is intended to be the conflict winner so in this case you wouldn't need to make any change.

FO3Edit can be a daunting beast to master, especially for beginners, but once you do master it, it can help resolve an awful lot of problems!

I would strongly suggest that you keep a backup copy of any .esm or .esp files that you change with FO3Edit. That way, if the changes don't work as you expected/wanted you can easily restore the unedited backup. Keep the backup(s) in a seperate folder as well so that you don't edit them by mistake!

Try not to make too many changes to too many mods in one go, proceed slowly and carefully, run the game with those edited mods every so often to test them out if possible.

I'm sure there a many, many more people around here who have much more knowledge of using FO3Edit than I do, hopefully some off them will drop in and add some more helpfull advice.

Well thanks for the advice I appreciate it and I'll definately take it on board. I've already backed everything up before making any changes so I'm free to experiment with it until I figure out if what I'm doing is actually right or wrong, working or causing more problems, lol.

Yeah, I hope some experienced FO3edit guys out there can stop in to help because after applying the filters there are SO many conflicts and I have no idea which ones are supposed to be ignored and which ones are not.
