zero23x1
ok i downloaded and installed oblivion and tested it, worked fine could make a new game and everything, then i installed si, next i went to install Knights of the nine and it froze so i reset my computer, it told me my computer wouldn't start and it needed to check and correct problems, so i let it. after that it reverted my computer to before i installed oblivion, so i re-installed it w/o si and when i went to start a new game nothing happens, no matter how many times i click it nothing happens, i un-istalled it and every trace of the game from my computer then re-installed it, same problem. Can someone help? i read in another topic this was a registry problem and to unistall all traces and reinstall, witch has done nothing to solve the problem. Balakirev
It sounds as though you still have pieces of Oblivion in your registry. What program did you use to clean your registry?

Balakirev
im guessing i misunderstood somthing, i just searches for all files relating to oblivion and got rid of them, what would u recommended to clean my registry of the files? There are several. I personally suggest spending the cash for a good "Swiss knife" utility package like System Mechanic, and using it's Registry Cleaning function. It's one of the best around. It'll catch stuff you didn't know was there, and it does a lot else. But beyond that, consider doing the following: 1) Backup your registry.2) Open it, and do a search on every instance of Bethesda. This assumes you don't have any other Bethesda Softworks games running. If you do, search on Oblivion.3) Delete them. Exit.4) Reboot. Try reinstalling. The thing about reverting...? It doesn't deal with your registry, only your files. Worth remembering for next time.
Smooth613
CCleaner is a solid free registry cleaner. Also what OS do you have? Windows 7 and Vista will store files in obscure locations sometimes, especially if you installed Oblivion in the Program File directory. So even though you removed everything from the program files directory you old install is still fully intact since Windows is ghosting the files elsewhere. Virtual Store – Win 7 & Vista | Windows is basically ghosting your files since you installed to Program Files. UAC doesn't like it when files are altered in anyway and sees this as a security threat. This is why you should always install Oblivion outside of Program Files to a directory such as <drive letter>:\Games\Oblivion. Windows is storing the files in the VirtualStore, located at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\VirtualStore.
Balakirev
CCleaner is a solid free registry cleaner. It's certainly solid, and won't result in crashes, but I've tried it out. It's found far fewer problems than System Mechanic did. True, it's free, but if you want the job done right, you want what's best, whether it's free, or costs something. zero23x1
i got rid of all traces, then used CC (system mechanic is to expensive for me) and then re-installed oblivion, same problem. CC says theres no registry errors.
Smooth613
You never answered some rather vital questions I asked previously about your OS and where you installed Oblivion. You really do need to provide us with as much information as possible. When you ask for help and others ask for information but you ignore it, it's really hard for us to do anything more for you. I'll make one more attempt. Please provide the following information:[/line]--Post a DXDIAG | Please use ["spoiler"]["/spoiler"] tags to enclose the information. XP: Go to Start->run, type “dxdiag” and hit enter. Click the Save All Information button near the bottom right. This will save a Dxdiag.txt in C:\ by default. Then open the dxdiag.txt and copy/paste the information into your post. VISTA/Windows 7: Go to Start->Search, type “dxdiag” and hit enter, click the Save All Information button near the bottom right. This will save a Dxdiag.txt in C:\ by default. Then open the dxdiag.txt and copy/paste the information into your post.[/line]--What OS do you have? Smooth613
---------------Display Devices---------------Card name: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 SeriesManufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.Chip type: ATI display adapter (0x9712)Unsupported/Insufficient hardware. You have a video chipset instead of an actual video card. Big difference. You might be able to play Oblivion with very low settings or as a last resort you can try Oldblivion. Other than that you just need better hardware, so upgrading is the only other option. But of course this isn't always a viable option, especially in this case with a laptop. Sorry nothing more can be done.
