i want to install the unofficial oblivion mod for the steam version can someone please help me im gonna install the oblivion mod shivering isles mod and dlc mod when I downloaded the unnoficial oblivion mod I was told that in order for it to work properly I needed to download the 12416 mod also its kinda confusing to me some help would be appreciated step by step if possible lol thank you

Alright, first off, to prevent confusing the people going to help you, let's not mix up the two terms "mod" and "patch" here.

 

The mod you intend to install is named the "Unofficial Oblivion Patch" (UOP in short), as it technically still is a "mod", but its scope is meant to continue where the official "patches" left off.

 

As for the Shivering Isles DLC, once you installed that one you'll also want to use the "Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch" (USIP), doing the same to the expansion the UOP does to the Vanilla game.

 

And this "12416 mod" you're talking of is the Official Game Patch to v1.2.0416. This one's needed as every plugin (ESP) created with a 1.2 Construction Set (nowadays almost all) will just be "silently ignored" by a pre-1.2 game version. There'll be no errors or warnings, it'll just be as if the plugin didn't even exist to begin with.

 

However, you having the game from Steam chances are very high you won't need the official patch at all anymore, as Steam's already keeping your games fully updated automatically all the time to begin with.

If in doubt, you can always simply check your current game's version by reading it up at the bottom of the main menu title screen where the map loop is scrolling in the background. v1.2.0416 is the latest.

 

 

So, step-by-step as requested, let's first figure out your current game version as instructed above. If you then know it's not yet the latest, use Steam's update mechanisms to update it. (I don't know Steam, so I can't tell you how.)

 

Once your game version is up to v1.2.0416, the latest, we can continue installing the official Shivering Isles expansion DLC.

 

Then go on and install the "Unofficial Oblivion Patch" (UOP), preferably the latest version, form this site or where it's currently hosted. It should be coming in different ways to install it, for example as an .exe installer, an OMOD (Oblivion Mod Manager proprietary archive format with handy installation dialog scripts) maybe, perhaps BAIN (Wrye Bash Installer proprietary format this time) also, and even an NMM (Nexus Mod Manager) compatible version could be flying around somewhere by now. Just find and choose the one you're most comfortable with and ask questions when you're running into issues along the way.

 

Once the UOP is installed and working, you can go on installing the USIP, as you're using the official Shivering Isles DLC as well, and maybe also the "Unofficial Official Mods Patch" (unofficial patches for the other DLCs) at last.
