Changing characters speed?

Hello Tesnexus, I was wondering if there is a way to change my characters speed? I would like to make him slower, to make it more realistic.

Is there a way to do this? Thank you.

There are a number of ways you could do it. I've not tried to do it myself so can't confirm they'll work for sure, but I think the easiest way is to change your Speed attribute via the console.

modpca speed -10

Typing the above in the console would reduce your speed by 10 points - you can use positive or negative values. Check out the UESP console guide for more info / instructions. Otherwise, you could try modding the game. There's a mod called Oblivion Running Revised which alters a number of speed / running-based things. There's an in-game menu which I imagine would have an option to reduce speed (can anyone confirm this?.

You can create you own custom mod very easily to accomplish tweaks such as this.

The value you want to adjust is fMoveRunMult. You can create a custom patch with TES4Edit to include these tweaks or use the Construction Set to modify Game Settings. Construction Set would be the best way for you to learn this stuff. TES4Edit is more of an advanced tool to use after you understand the basics. Check out the Movement Settings page @ Construction Set Wiki for all the default values. I have my own custom ESP with many tweaks related to running, jumping, gravity, acrobatics, sneak attack adjustments, etc...

For example: Slowing down your run speed as you requested...

Default:

fMoveRunMult = 3.0000

I change that to the following...

fMoveRunMult = 2.1500

You can alter it to whatever you see fit. I recommend something in the range of 2.0000 -- 2.4000 depending on your taste and you may need to adjust as you skill up closer to 100. Hope that helps and there are tons of these small tweak you can make yourself and put in one ESP file to greatly enhance the game.

Good luck!
