HiddenLurker
Hey guys, im playing the game on 'very hard' + hardcore mode already, but i STILL think its too easy..i mean.. theres still too much ammo and medical supplies, not to mention cash.. is there any mod that makes the game harder by removing those extra stuff? That way it'll make the skill, 'repair', much more useful too...force the player to craft his own ammo. Thanks for any input!

dieangel68
What about simply using character crippling perks? You just have to make your character weaker to make the game harder.
secksegai
The mods are one way, but there's always self-restraint. Ultimately the difficulty level tapers off and is simply a matter of grinding (and in FONV's case I include questing). There are mods that limit carry weight, but the real question ends up being how badly do you want to nerf you character. You can give a deathclaw 1000 hp, but if he never sees the shots coming, he's not any harder. You can make weapons 1 shot, but get hit once you're just looking at a lot of reload screens. If you know what you're doing, it's hard for any mod to do nothing more than become simply a nuisance.
adman85
I disagree,I'd say it's really hard to find (or make) a good balance, but difficulty mods do so much to add to game challenge, you just gotta ween through the bad ones. And also perhaps be willing to put in a bit of time to tweak things to your personal liking in the geck. secksegai
Well playstyle does become a major factor - since I focus on ranged death, the most important factor is equipment. With a silenced sniper rifle, and maybe an occasional stealthboy as needed, I can clear any area the old fashioned way, whether it be the cove, the bos bunker (not that I would but easily can), the fort, deadwind cavern, deathclaw promontory, etc. Ammo weight means fewer targets before I've got to get more, but it doesn't reduce my effectiveness with my rifle. Having to eat and sleep (the sleeping part I do anyway) just means more inventory micromanagement. Since I can basically kill naked, short of an HP reduction there's no major risk of death since I engage the majority of targets at range in which they can't retaliate. Now, on the other hand, its a different story when the player focuses on melee as damage mitigation becomes much more important. Perk choices need to be focused around it, etc. Mods that would do little to change the difficulty for ranged focused players can make huge differences for melee fighters as they've got to be able to withstand hits. For example, a single headshot kills type mod would result in a melee player having a lot of reloads depending on difficulty, where a ranged person may only get the benefit since said player tends to avoid direct confrontation.
