just download the right geck, the nv version, not the fo3 version. there's a link to it from the geck mainpage (they just added that a few weeks ago)

It's June 2021, Trump is out, people are getting vaccinated, and if you're like me, you googled this issue only to find a thread that hasn't been updated since before a cuddly yellow bear took over the place where everything comes from.

So here's what's changed:
The links above are dead (you figured that out by now). If you got the GECK from this link, you're good, but that's not all. You need to download the GECK_NVE_v1.4.zip file from there as well.

https://geck.bethsoft.com/

You installed it into the New Vegas folder, right? Good.
(usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas, probably something else if you got it from GOG or ebay)

Now you need to open GECK_NVE_v1.4.zip and overwrite the files the GECK installed with the 4 files in the zip archive:

  • Geck.exe
  • GECKicon.ico
  • GECKReadme.txt
  • ssce5432.dll

Now try opening the GECK, loading the esm, and see if it works.

(Note:This assumes you're trying to use this with New Vegas. If you're running into this and you're trying to edit your Fallout 3 data files, ... um .. you got me. Sorry)
