What is the mod limit?!

Depends on your computer. I'm not that mod heavy (i don't usually run more than 40 mods at one time) so i can't really offer much on this subject.

It's often said to be "140 active plugins" for FNV, but that is an approximation. (Mod Managers themselves are not usually the limiting factor.) It varies fairly widely depending upon both your hardware/system and the mix of mods you install. Once you get to 130 (proven to be my personal limit), start expecting to encounter problems with every mod you add (even, or especially: textures & meshes because they are not "active" plugins but still count against the game engine cap). Here are some tips:

Move any "inactive" plugins out of the game "Data" folder. They count against the "plugin cap" because they get loaded by the game engine if found, and can cause "Missing Master" problems as well as issues such as you are seeing. If you can't get down to roughly 130 by moving inactives out, try to prioritize and uninstall (on a temporary "test" basis) the less important plugins until you do so. If that does resolve your problems, then see the wiki "Merged Plugin Guidelines for Personal Use" article on how to merge plugins (which is not the same as a "merge patch" file) to get your active count down while still keeping the mods.

Don't install compatibility patches for mods you do not have installed/active (e.g. get rid of any "TTW" patches if you aren't running TTW).

Don't install every optional file for a mod. Read the install instructions carefully. Optional files need to be selected on a "case by case" basis. For example: with any mod you usually only need one ESP (and possibly one ESM) "base" file depending upon whether you have all the DLCs active or not. Only if you don't have them all active do you need to install any specific DLC versions if there is an "Ultimate Edition/All/Merged DLC" version.

Do not use an "Auto-purge" mod for game play. (That was old advice from before we knew better.) They are designed for debugging by mod creator's only, according to the author of the JIP NVSE extensions to NVSE. See the 'Issue: CTD without warning, "Out of Memory error", or stops responding after the Main Menu', "Cause-2", "Solution-3" entry in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide for the game settings that do the same job.

Hope I'm not intruding but yes this is definitely a too many mods issue iv had this happen and iv been playing fallout new Vegas for 7 years anyway from what iv learned and everybody's game is different but what you should do is get nvac and 4gb launcher if you don't already have them anyway it's a pain but use fallout mod manager or nexus whatever you have and disable all mods except fallout dlcs and whatnot and then from the top up for esm files enable them all and after go to the bottom of the esp files and go one by one and enable them until the game messed up find some way you can tell for example I used to place an item with real time settler and make it as small as possible in scale and exit the cell and come back and if it was huge when I came back that meant I had too many mods or for example maybe you get red exclamation marks everywhere but a lot of people don't realize is someone's if you are just a few mods over the game seems fine but certain little things will mess up like scaling or an invisible guy or something and it won't go completely haywire but just slightly like I had what you explained I could open objects but the name wouldn't appear for the object like a locker I could open it but it wouldn't say locker when I hover that's another example anyway though it's all about your computer and game for example I have so many mods in merge patches my limit is now around 161 when I didn't know how to merge I could get it to 181 before it went crazy and I don't have a very good PC I mean it works but if you have nvac and 4gb launcher as well as ini tweaks you can get it up there I was just reading a post where a guy couldn't go past 95 mods so consider yourself lucky haha then again iv seen people claim they can get it over 200 because they're PC geniuses but personally I think that's 100 percent BS anyway hope you get it figured out feel free to message me I'll try to respond fast!!!
