Fallout 3 mods compatibility

I agree with secksegai in general. There are some FO3 mods which can be brought into NV with little or no effort though. If they are just mesh and/or texture replacements, they can be tried -- they may or may not have the desired effect however. If they have an ESP file, you can load that into FO3Edit and see if they have any dependencies on FO3 or other FO3 mods. If they do, you're s.o.l. for now, if not, you can just change the master from Fallout3.esm to FalloutNV.esm. If it loads without crashing and does what it's supposed to do, make sure to let the original author know that their mod is compatible so they can make an NV release of it. Edited by CarlCorey

how do i change the master file?

  1. Make sure that you have your ESP file backed up because this will break it for FO3
  2. Start FO3Edit, on the list of files to load, right click and "Select None" and then check the one file you want to change
  3. Once it's loaded, click the "+" next to your mod file, expand the tree and click on File Header
  4. Make sure that you have your ESP file backed up because this will break it for FO3 :)
  5. See where it says "Fallout3.esm"? Right click that and "Edit"
  6. Look at the dialog that forces you stop and read it and be absolutely certain that you have that file backed up
  7. Change "Fallout3.esm" to "FalloutNV.esm"
  8. Exit FO3Edit and save the file when it asks you too
  9. Copy the modified file into your Fallout NV data directory
  10. Copy your backed up FO3 file back into your Fallout 3 data directory
  11. Enable the new file in Fallout NV via FOMM or however you do it
