Model Fade to darkness

I have a room that I am making. The room has no bottom, it just fades into darkness. My question is, how do I make a model that is dark on the bottom, but translucent on the top. I looked at things like the LPpipe door, but I don't understand it fully.

 

My other thought is to make the sky pitch black, and then leave no bottom on it.

 

Any ideas?

to get transluency you simply create a diffuse texture that has an alpha channel.

areas that are white are 100% opaque, aereas that are black are 100% invisible, hence just create a gradient between black and white

you will also need to add an alphaproperty to your *.nif
