Deleted2402016User
Hello, I am about to play Oblivion for the first time and want to install some of the unofficial patches to fix bugs. I only want to install patches that fix official content, not ones that add unofficial content. So far I have: (from http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Must_Have_Mods) 1. The Unofficial Oblivion Patch2. The Unofficial Oblivion Patch Supplemental3. The Unofficial Official Mods Patch4. The Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch Do these patches add any new content or do they just fix bugs? Also the last mod on the list @ http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Must_Have_Mods says: Weapon Expansion Pack for Oblivion Nthusiasts (27KB for Oblivion+Shivering Isles version or 19KB for Oblivion version): Fixes hundreds of minor weapon, armor, item, or leveled list attributes not already covered by any of the files listed above. Several versions of this file add new content to Oblivion, but two 'Fix Only' versions that only affect vanilla content also are posted. Should I download the patch 'Oblivion and SI Fixes Only' if I only want to fix official data and not add any new stuff. Reason why I ask that one specifically for is there are so many on the site to download and I am confused. Also can anyone recommend any mods that allow me to increase draw distance? I've seen many talked about through google, but I just can't seem to decide. Thanks! James
WastelandAssassin
well, the unofficial patches are just that, patchesso they are there to fix problems and bugsso as far as i know, they don't add any new content to the game as for the Weapon Expansion Pack, it is easy to see, judging by the size of the files, that the main files add content to the gameif it is 20MB+, it probably has some meshes and textures, which means new content judging by the size of the fix only, and by it's name "fix only" it doesn't add any new contents, just fixes problems

bben46
The unofficial patches are not true patches, they are actually mods. Unlike true patches, they can be removed without reinstalling the entire game. A true patch makes changes to the base game files such as Oblivion.exe and Oblivion.esm that cannot be undone easily. The unofficial patches do not make any changes in the way the game is played. mostly they do a lot of simple things like fix floating rocks. If you didn't know about those minor problems in advance you will not notice the change. They do not add any new features or remove any existing features. However they do make several features work that do not work properly in the game.
nisen
You might need to install the unofficial patches in a different order from what you have (as 1 2 4 3) with the Shivering Isles 3rd and UOP Mods 4th. And it might be worth installing them in omod format. Note you cant get the UOP Supplimentals in omod format but it has conversion data so if you copy the zip archive straight to obmm/mods (dont extract it) OBMM can create it from the archive and find the conversion data to sort it out. So if youve not allready downloaded this stuff, first get OBMM, then the UOP 3.2.0 OMOD, UOP Supplimentals main file, Shivering Isles patch OMOD, and UOP Mods OMOD, and activate in that order Draw distance is handled by RAEVWD and Tes4Gen Edited December 6, 2010 by nisen
bben46
A little terminology that I hope will make some things clear. Downloading - The process of copying a mod from the website into your computer. The will usually be in a compressed format (zipped) and must be installed first to work. Installing - The process of unzipping and moving the mod into the proper folder and making it available to be loaded. (for mods that do not have an esp or esm this is all that is needed) Activating - Clicking on the check box - either in the data list or in OBMM. This allows the mod esp or esm file to be used in the game. Note that the game data list is NOT in load order, However the list in OBMM is. You also cannot change the order in the game data list, but can in OBMM. Load order - The order that installed mods are loaded each time you start the game. Mods at the top of the list are loaded first. Mods loaded further down may override parts of mods installed earlier. This is normal and expected for mods and even if shown as a conflict will probably not have an affect on your game. The order that you install the mod is not important. However, the order they are loaded can be.

WastelandAssassin
OMOD is an archive that the Oblivion mod manager (OBMM) knows how to readit's basically a compressed archive (like rar or zip) that the mod manager can useyou can create an OMOD by the Create option in OBMM, and just adding the files needed in the window you get (just look at that window, it should be pretty much self explanatory on how to proceed)i think you can also just change the archive extension from rar (or zip\7zip or whatever) to omod, and it should work (haven't tested on omods, but have tested on fomods, which is the same but for Fallout, and it works) now, as for the order, i don't know, but nisen said to install in a 1 -> 2 -> 4 -> 3 order (this is for the numbers in your original post)and from what i understand, nisen was correct about this, and his order should be the correct one
Smooth613
You really should read the information available at TESIV:POSItive. It'll guide you through almost anything you wish to achieve, or link you to the necessary information. It's truly one of the best resources available. Deleted2402016User
(from http://www.uesp.net/...:Must_Have_Mods) 1. The Unofficial Oblivion Patch2. The Unofficial Oblivion Patch Supplemental3. The Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch4. The Unofficial Official Mods Patch Thats the order that has been suggested above, however, #2 says install #3 first in it's readme, so now I'm really confused :(.
