I am a little surprised that no-one has come up with the idea of improvised armoured cars - basically trucks with boiler-plate armour and a machine gun or two on mountings. These were made and used in the Spanish Civil War; early (WWI) vintage armoured cars, which were not much superior to the home-made variety, were still in use in the British Army in the Western desert during the early part of WWII.

These would be largely road bound, but there are sufficient roads and passable terrain around New Vegas that I am sure they would be found useful. But I doubt they would be much help in the final battle for the Dam.

In terms of game balance - some of the 'baddies' could probably create or capture A/cars for their own use; and improvised a/cars, not having proper high-tech armour plate protection, would be very vulnerable to grenades, missiles and energy weapons ....

Yes great idea! I also think that these armored cars will perfectly suit hit and run attack (oerfect for raiders) and you also said that they wont be much help in the final battle; of course they will help cuz i dont know if you have noticed, but there are no mounted machine guns or something like this and these armored car can provide supression fire! :) a model like the greyhound or the german puma would be absolutelly great!

The M8 greyhound

The Puma

or any other!

I personaly miss my highwaymen from fo2. The rubber tires were aparently improved enough by 2077 so that after 200 years they havent disentegrated obviously since theres stacks of them all over the place. They can come up with a paint proces that survived 200 years of radioactive follout, sun and sand and wind and the fission reactors are still in tact enough to level an area the size of a peewee baseball diamond when shot, but nobody in the wastland can piece together one complete car? Yeah the emp of a nuclear war would have fried most of the electronics but if hundreds of ham radio sets survived, or if a solar power stations computers werent all fried then a few corvegas and highwaymen engine control modules should still work.

With the fast travel and long haul perks you dont need the car anymore but it was still fun to have one. Even if it did get stollen once in a while or disapeared if you ran out of juice at a random encounter and wandered off on foot to get a microfusion cell to recharge her. lol

Oh on a side note, why are there hundreds of ham radios that let you spin the dial only to see nobodys squaking? Were the fo3 designers originally planing an mmorpg or a coordinaded multiplayer mode using them? OR do they just like screwing with you? "Oh crap ham radio! The last 200 didnt work but this one will i just know it!" With the exception of the one outside of tabithas camp and the one on the dam in the sniper nest, i have never seen a use for one
